SCARY.

No other words for it. Its just really scary. We just cannot have a labour led govt. I hope enough people are paying attention to the split vote strategy.

Its the price Nats & ACT paid for getting in bed with the banks, supermarkets, gentailers, Fonterra & big construction corporates in midst of an affordability crisis when NZers began to regard the big end of town as unpleasantly squeezing them. What was Willis and Luxon thinking when they sought out lobby groups like Business NZ and the Initiative for advice & enacted policies to help their members? Then Lux insults small businesses in Rotorua. An out of touch junta of big corporate loving fools has been in charge.

TOP is a very strange political party. Its Board can override the usual caucus ( party leaders and MP candidates). Like a Politburo.

NZ's biggest problem is voter stupidity - the result of 30 years of pro-Maori indoctrination via a dumbed-down Education system. Typical Marxist tactics.

The split vote strategy will work. Forget party affiliations (we all have our likes and dislikes, that is not the domain of the few).
Block out the lefty rhetoric and concentrate on the task ahead.
We do care about our fellow New Zealanders, right and left. The left-wing policies are disastrous though. We will all become "wards of the state".

Scary - yes.  Why has this happened?  Incompetence by National in its deliberate avoidance of the elephant in the room, and its leader's thinking that diversionary blather and bluster around other so-called issues would be enough to keep people happy.  They're not.  And this is the result.

I see Stuff has an article on ACT and says one issue stands out, race. However, Stuff quotes a few people making comments about Maori takeover etc but never expands on the reasons why. It is just left as white racists. None of the underlying trends in NZ spanning health, education etc and the draconian measures such as declicensing people are covered. Stuff will not go there. Hence the article. Nothing one sees on BV will ever be explored. You/we all just racists.

Same anon here as before re Stuff. Robert is bang on. The govt never moved on hip pocket issues; sometimes you need to read the room. The days of National being the natural party of govt or at least leading it are long, long gone. Act is not picking up votes because it is seen as anti-worker. Freeze the pay of lowest paid workers for example ie min wage. Its economic policies do not resonate with the vast majority whether Act likes it or not.

National have elected to go with a leader who is so hopelessly ill suited to politics much less as PM into an election campaign, it's embarrassing. That and their big woke step to the left.

On Luxon, he absolutely fears been put on the spot and so avoids the media unless it's a Hosking patsy interview. So he's MIA.

It's a Joe Biden replay, a leader who for very different reasons was unable to lead during a campaign. It's hard to watch.

It's one poll, but they probably should've removed Luxon when they had a chance. National supporters are abandoning the party because of his poor leadership when it comes to issues they elected the coalition on.

To Anon 7.07: Yes - issues which are routinely side stepped. National 's downfall - but they were often warned .

to Robert MacCulloch: you said "What was Willis and Luxon thinking when they sought out lobby groups like Business NZ and the Initiative for advice & enacted policies to help their members?"
Yeah, what is Luxton thinking when he meets regularly (monthly I think) with the Iwi Chairs Forum (which is a group of elite part-maori representatives of rich billion $ iwi tribal corporations who got their seed money from treaty settlements and register their business as charities so they avoid paying taxes), and supports legislation that gives elite part-maori (and their cronies) even more of the tax payer's money with NO accountablity? These rich iwi are no different from the corporations you mention except they don't pay the same rate of tax. Why, only because their ancestors "got here first". National under Luxon is an out of touch junta of part-maori loving fools who are sacrificing the basic principle of Democracy: all votes are equal and everyone has the same rights and obligations (except for elite neo-marxist elite part-maori "some people are more equal then others". For those of you who shun "evil white man colonial literature" that's a paraphrase of the classic line from "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

The cost of living issue isn’t going away under the current govt. Nicola Willis has shown herself to be incompetent and unemployment is up at historic levels particularly for young people. Are any of the next generation voting for a right wing coalition that has made a mess of the economy while propping up big business? These things are cyclical and this poll result shouldn’t surprise anyone but the most myopic uninformed punters.

I understand another poll was released the same day that showed the Coalition in the lead. This needs to be reported on too.
