Argentina has formally withdrawn from the World Health Organization (WHO), completing the exit process one year after first requesting to leave the United Nations health agency.

Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno confirmed the move after President Javier Milei’s government notified the organisation in February 2025 and lodged the formal withdrawal request on March 17 last year.

When Javier Milei came to power in Argentina, the Western media went into pearl-clutching overdrive. Milei, like Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, was a ‘mini-Trump’, a chainsaw-wielding madman who was set to overthrow decades of left-wing, socialist, policy in Argentina. That those same policies had taken Argentina from one of the wealthiest countries in the world to a basket-case economy, was of no matter.

All that mattered was that the globalists’ beloved ‘pink tide’ was under threat. Venezuela, the left’s beloved poster-child, was in free-fall collapse, with Argentina not far behind.

Milei vowed to turn that all around by slashing government spending and lifting the heavy boot of bureaucracy from Argentina’s neck.

And it’s worked. With stunning speed. In less than two years, Milei has reined in inflation, revitalised a moribund housing market and lifted millions of Argentines out of poverty.

There was good news for Argentina last week. It was expected that Daniel Scioli, the Peronist candidate and political heir of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, would win the presidential election. Much to most people’s surprise, Maurico Macri, the more free-market-oriented mayor of Buenos Aires, won almost as many votes as Mr. Scioli, forcing a runoff, which Mr. Macri has a good chance to win.

The Peronists (named after former dictator Juan Peron) have had political control much of the last 70 years, and it has been a disaster for the country.
