Bob Edlin: Why the PPTA needs PoO.....
Labels: Bob Edlin, Extremism, Fascism, Point of Order (PoO), Post Primary Teachers’ Association, Treaty of WaitangiWhy the PPTA needs PoO – to help them identify the extremists who need expelling from the classroom
Too late, the PoO team today realised that time was fast running out to pitch for a $10,000 (plus GST) contract plus expenses. The job is up for grabs for “experienced writers and educators”, a category into which we modestly reckon we comfortably fit.
The challenge would be to develop advice and guidelines on dealing with extremism in the classroom.

Guy Steward: The Left is Wrong about Fascism
Labels: Fascism, Guy Steward, Socialism, UK election
It’s heartening to see the landslide victory of the
Conservatives in the UK with support across different socio-demographics. It
shows amongst other things what voters disenchanted by the frequent failure of
left-wing parties can do when there are viable alternatives. May we see
something similar in New Zealand in 2020.
And it’s fascinating to observe the reactions—especially of vociferous
left-wingers—to resounding defeats like this. It reveals their political
integrity or lack thereof.
Street protesters tend to come across as less
rational, less adult, in their reduction of everything to accusations. Granted
that duplicity is no one’s preserve, and everyone occasionally wears the hypocrite
label. Yet the political left at the street level take the cake, because while
their banners display moralist statements like “Say no to racism”, they are
quite OK with lying, smearing, slandering, misrepresenting, inferring evil
intent, hating, threatening, and cursing anyone considered too “right” or conservative.
…but please “Say no to racism!”.

George Smith: Ayn Rand Predicted an American Slide toward Fascism
Labels: Ayn Rand, Fascism, George H Smith, US AffairsIn a letter written on March 19, 1944, Ayn Rand remarked: “Fascism, Nazism, Communism and Socialism are only superficial variations of the same monstrous theme - collectivism.”
Rand would later expand on this insight in various articles, most notably in two of her lectures at the Ford Hall Forum in Boston: “The Fascist New Frontier” (Dec. 16, 1962, published as a booklet by the Nathaniel Branden Institute in 1963); and “The New Fascism: Rule by Consensus” (April 18, 1965, published as Chapter 20 in Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal [CUI] by New American Library in 1967).
