Dr Will Jones: Trump’s UN Rallying Cry for the Defence of Western Civilisation
Labels: Dr Will Jones, Mass immigration, Net Zero, President Trump, United Nations, Western Civilisation, Woke GobbledegookEnd open borders. Stop importing criminals. Defend your sovereignty. Fight Islamist extremism. Stand up for Christianity. End vastly expensive Net Zero climate policies. Because otherwise Europe is “going to Hell”. Trump’s hard-hitting message to the United Nations this week was music to Nile Gardner’s ears, as he writes in the Mail.

Professor Michael Rainsborough: Towards Post-totalitarianism in the West: Some Warnings From the East
Labels: Authoritarianism, Democracy, Professor Michael Rainsborough, Soviet Union, Totalitarianism, Western Civilisation“Do we not stand as a kind of warning to the West, revealing to it its own latent tendencies?” So asked Czech playwright Václav Havel in 1978 in ‘The Power of the Powerless’, his epic essay on the nature of dissent in Communist Eastern Europe. Havel argued that the fate of East European countries under Communist tyranny stood as a monument to the debilitating effects of late-stage techno-bureaucratic rationalism – a system focused solely on material existence. This system, he argued, ceased to serve humanity, eroded individual dignity and coldly tore people away from their natural affiliations: their habitat, their family, their community, their nation.

Sallust: How Wokeism Is Destroying the West
Labels: America, Ancient Rome, Decline, Doug Casey, Sallust, Western Civilisation, WokeismBy the late 3rd century AD, the Roman Empire was a shadow of its former self. Beleaguered by mass migration and invasions across its frontiers, vast resources had been poured into fighting off the invaders, while at the same time, endless civil wars had created an ongoing crisis of leadership. Rampant inflation had destroyed the currency. The solution came in the form of a vastly more complex state under the emperor Diocletian (AD 284–305). A ballooning bureaucracy presided over a welter of new laws that, among others, tried to fix prices, lock workers into their occupations and prevent movement, while levying crippling taxes.

Derek Mackie: Once upon a time in the West
Labels: Derek Mackie, Western CivilisationForty’s the new Fifty, more speed bumps every minute
Near deserted bike lanes, empty buses rumbling past
In the pecking order, cars are firmly last
Road cones sprout and multiply at an alarming rate
Endless Stop/Go signs appear - gee thanks, mate!
Constant roadworks, little working, drivers getting stressed
Progress? It’s the same everywhere in the West

Melanie Phillips: The Barbarians Inside the Gates
Labels: identity politics, Melanie Phillips, Western CivilisationFor the past three decades, some of us have been warning that the inevitable outcome of what the universities have been pumping out under the misnomer of “education” would be what we are indeed seeing today – a shocking and violent onslaught against the core western and civilised values that they have so systematically undermined.
It was university-based dogma that abolished objectivity and replaced it by the authority of subjective feelings. All values became relative. No-one had the right to say that the way anyone lived, or the principles or characteristics of any culture, were better or worse than any other.
Truth became a matter of personal opinion. Abolishing objective truth opened the way to the hegemony of lies. Rationality was destroyed. As Allan Bloom observed in his mordant valedictory for civilisation, the western mind was being closed.

Kevin Donnelly: Minions denigrate penetrating legacy of the West
Labels: Australian affairs, Culture Wars, Kevin Donnelly, Western CivilisationIt is hardly surprising that the Australian National University’s National Tertiary Education Union branch president, Matthew King, has attacked the university’s decision to establish a Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation.
According to King, as cited in the Campus Morning Mail
yesterday, the centre is guilty of promoting “a narrow, radically conservative
program” promulgating the “alleged superiority of Western culture and
civilisation”.
