Taking into consideration that two thirds of students who do not reach proficiency in reading end up in orison or on welfare I think we should also consider the fact that the latest statistics show NZ has slumped right down on international reading rankings from 18th in 2017 to 27th this year.
This government does not want this published any more than the crime rate because getting down to root causes is not their plan.
Certainly we need more law and order but also a very serious look at causes.
