JC: Luxon the Cat Among the Media Pigeons

This is starting to look delicious. Christopher Luxon has upset the precious little darlings in the media. Their knickers are in a humongous twist. They are immediately realising that their friends are no longer there. They are highly irritated that rather than being able to set and dictate the narrative, as has been the case for the last six years, it is now being set for them. In a standup with Luxon on Tuesday morning their annoyance was there for all to see.

These media sharks have been reduced to nothing more than whitebait caught in Luxon’s political net. They are now flailing around with no way out. Their frustration is centred on Luxon not conducting the negotiations with other parties in the public domain. This smart move scuppers the media’s chances to put their spin on what is happening and causing mischief in the process. The media are now on a sharp learning curve which might take them some time to get the hang of.

Like the outgoing Government, these people are not very bright. They need to work out pretty quickly they’re no longer dealing with a fish and chip wrapper or a political junkie. The person they are having to talk to is a high-flying businessman, a man who knows how the real world works. He will run the country accordingly and these little leftie journalists will find him very difficult to handle. We can now expect even more unhinged commentary and attacks from them.

Luxon intends to conduct the negotiations in a business-like manner. This is what he’s used to, this is how he operates. As he says, he will not be giving a blow-by-blow account, which of course is a huge blow to the media. They will be of the view that the public has a right to know what’s going on and therefore they can’t do their job. They have had an easy ride with their friends in Labour as mostly they have agreed with the nonsense Labour has spouted.

Now, not only will they probably not agree with the information they are given, they will find they have to deal with a very different animal, a businessman. As the previous government didn’t have any business people in their ranks, this is a new phenomenon to the little darlings. Even worse, because most don’t understand business themselves, they’ll have a difficult time getting their heads around his modus operandi. This is going to be very interesting to watch.

It would be advisable to have a plate of popcorn ready at 6pm because, while their daft comments will probably induce anger, we need to also realise this Government will be getting under their collective skins. Despite the election result proving nobody took any notice of them prior, they’ll still see themselves as the big fish controlling the narrative. The difference will be the answers the government gives to their questions. They won’t get airy-fairy nonsense; they’ll get answers containing direct information including facts and figures.

For the next couple of weeks, the country will be in a political hiatus which means the media will be too. If Tuesday’s chat was anything to go by, the media will increasingly be beside themselves. I’m picking they won’t handle the situation very well. There will not be much aplomb in their reporting. Luxon, with no malice intended, has brought these pigeons off their high perches and reduced them to pecking for seeds to try to get information.

How simply delightful!

Deliciously written JC. The shapers of public opinion have been silenced by the grown ups. I revelled in the silence delivered by Winston Peters to the MSM budgies as they rudely demanded engagement.

The best way to deal with the MSM is stifle them of comment and let them get more unhinged as they make up their own. That should reduce ratings even further.
Then call them in as soon as the new government is formed and tell them, just like everyone else, that they'll be receiving a lot less public money.

Luxon probably needs to cultivate the John Key fixed smile and glazed look when answering questions. It mostly worked for him.

A classic example of this change was listening to Jason Walls floundering on the Heather du Plessis show last night. He was trying to push his narrative that Luxon has taken the Treaty referendum off the table. Which as Heather correctly pointed out, a few times, this just isn't true.
So hopefully we're heading back to a time where journalists report facts. Not their wish-lists.
