Insights From Social Media

Steven Mark Gaskell writes > "Fly the Woke Skies: Air New Zealand’s New Preferred Supplier Your Identity"

Air New Zealand, our proud national carrier (and 51% taxpayer owned, don’t forget), has decided it’s not enough to simply fly planes or balance books. No, it must now soar to even greater heights of virtue signalling.

Enter the Ka Rere programme, a grand initiative where Māori and Pasifika owned businesses receive $20,000 cash grants and a front-row seat to potential supplier opportunities not because they’ve proven themselves best in the market, but because they’ve ticked the right cultural box. No tendering process, no open competition just a warm handshake and an identity based golden ticket.

Of course, it’s all perfectly legal after all, who needs fairness when you’ve got a great Diversity & Inclusion poster? But you have to wonder what actual shareholders (you know, the public who bailed this airline out more than once) think of cash being handed out in a corporate mentorship scheme where race seems to carry more weight than merit. Was there a vote? A shareholder meeting? Or just a quiet nod in the executive lounge?

Don’t worry, though it’s not discrimination, it’s “equity.” And rest assured, it’s all wrapped up in a slick marketing campaign about partnerships and progress. Because nothing says modern aviation like a side of taxpayer funded wokeness served at 30,000 feet.

Steven Mark Gaskell writes > Ah, of course a King’s honour for “services to leadership and unity” goes to the guy who literally called for one of the elected governing parties to be kicked out of Parliament.

Because nothing says democracy quite like “I don’t like your ideas, so you shouldn't be in government.” Inspirational stuff.

Pita Tipene, the same man who talks endlessly about “mana,” and bringing people together, just can’t seem to stomach the idea of New Zealanders voting for a party ACT that doesn’t line up with his worldview. How dare 240,000 people make a democratic choice! Apparently, Tipene’s version of democracy only works when it delivers results he agrees with.

Let’s recap: ACT proposes a review of Treaty principles, so Tipene jumps straight to demanding their removal from the coalition government. Because clearly, debating the Treaty is now hate speech, and participating in a democratic system with different ideas is a threat to the nation.

And for this deep commitment to “unity,” he gets to be a Companion of the King’s Service Order. You couldn’t script it better. Next time maybe give the award to someone who actually believes in pluralism and debate not someone who shouts “racism” when challenged and then hands out participation ribbons to only one side.

But hey welcome to 2025, where the fastest way to royal recognition is to divide the country while claiming you're uniting it.

Air NZ should just get on and change its name to Air Aotearoa; hire some 'more' mentally and physically challenged people, all to reinforce its Ranginui/ sky waka roots and DEI credentials.

Like (I expect) many, I was once proud of our national carrier, but no longer. Given a choice, I won't fly with such rip-off wokesters.

quote "And for this deep commitment to “unity,” he gets to be a Companion of the King’s Service Order. You couldn’t script it better."..........or it could be seen as the 'evil coloniser' rewarding 'uncle toby'

Surprising how many part maoris, who hate colonialists, line up to be given a colonialist medal.

Fly with AirNZ?
Only in desperation !
The Maori crap is unbelievable, from the Kia ora to everyone even when clearly they are anything other than Maori.
That's the first insult at the door - not being greeted in your own language.
Then try getting through the safety briefing without your blood pressure rising.
Plastic Maori themed every thing until with huge relief that you exit the aircraft and return to an acceptable normality.

AirNZ to be best avoided by flying with any other airline.

Seems to me the team or whoever researches the background of those nominated is in need of a critical review. Or was the team recruited with a string of cultural requirments necessary, as for near all other ublic servioe positionas? To her credit Helen Clark disassociated from the multitude of awards and in many cases dubious recipients.

The only slick marketing campaign Air NZ has ever devised was handing out sweets 15 minutes before landing.
And now this is at risk as many passengers may choke or spit at the thought of the Ka Rere (grift / programme)
