The first steps towards peace in Gaza are closer:
Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement for an exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, a breakthrough in negotiations to end the devastating war in Gaza just days after it passed the two-year mark.
President Trump, who pushed to broker the deal, said on social media Wednesday that both sides had agreed to the first phase of his peace plan, which requires Israel to pull back its troops to an agreed-upon line. . .
These are the people who were taken hostage on October 7th two years ago, it’s thought only about 20 of them are still alive.

May this first step take place, those hostages still alive be returned and may the other steps that ensure peace follow soon.
Neither side will win this war, but there is now hope that it is coming to an end.

'Winning' for Hamas means obliterating the State of Israel, which is not going to happen.
'Winning' for the ultraorthodox parties in the Knesset on whom Netanyahu relies for the right to govern means reinstating the borders of the Kingdoms of Israel and Judea in their heyday (the Zionist doctrine of the late 19thC Theodor Herzl). That's not going to happen either.
Both sides will have to be content with consolation prizes and that does not auger well for the future.
I am so afraid for the poor scraps of humanity still incarcerated - do not trust Hamas to be honourable in any way. I know they are so few when so many others have died, but they have assumed a symbolic significance beyond their actual existence. God bless 'the hostages'.
