The AUT Trust in Media survey had this graph [below]:
It shows many NZers who are on the right are allergic to Radio NZ, TVNZ, Stuff, The Spinoff and Three News. Those newsrooms could consider what they could do to change that.
It was good to see overall trust in the media has risen from last year. I suspect part of this may be the rise of AI fake videos and graphics. So often now I see stuff on social media that looks legitimate, but I check it out and it is fabricated. But media companies may have biases, but they don’t generate entirely fake content – so if a journalist is sharing something, I do have higher trust in it.

What the graph really shows is that people like to have their opinions affirmed…and trust affirmation.
Left leaning voters trust nzs msm nearly implicitly.
The further a voter drifts from the extreme left, the more their trust drops.
It’s like everyone who isn’t on the extreme left had a lightbulb moment and were just waiting for the extreme lefties to catch up.
Does this also affirm the old wives tale about lefthanders (formerly called lefties) being a bit slower than the rest of us?
Are you saying that, at the most, only 25% of right leaning people don't trust the media? That's truly scary. So, 75% do? The MSM in New Zealand gets most of their content from CNN which is notoriously left wing and slanted. Any right leaning person who does their own research and watches independent news outlets soon learns how bad our news coverage is. Most of the news I watch never gets a mention in the MSM unless they are forced "screaming and kicking" to cover it. I have watched huge protests, political debates and war coverage which the average person I speak to here, has no knowledge of.
The other factor now is, the MSM are reactive not proactive.
The left have traditionally been less intellectually competent, and the supporting logic for this not complex.
Smart people do better generally and the left want more of that hard won wealth. So the smart tend to view cost control at Govt. spend level as a preference to the wealthy having to support more.
All this proves is that people ‘trust’ whatever media agrees with their personal world view.
