Blair: Britain risks falling behind because of Net Zero

Britain risks “falling behind” global competitors such as the US and China because of Ed Miliband’s net zero drive, Sir Tony Blair has warned. The former prime minister said the UK and EU must abandon their “climate-first, climate-only” approach in favour of cheap and reliable energy.

Tice accuses Big Wind of scaremongering

Richard Tice has accused wind farm owners of “scaremongering” over claims the party’s plans to scrap green subsidies would spark economic chaos. Mr Tice said: “if you scrap net zero, you can scrap all of the green tariffs, the policies, ETS, CBAM, the whole lot – they all go. So the bills come down immediately because you scrap the levies and the taxes, and then what we’ve got to focus on is more supply of reliable electricity.”

Miliband covered up report that shows Net Zero will icnrease bills

Ed Miliband has been accused of “covering up” evidence that Labour’s net zero plans will increase household electricity bills. Responding to an FOI, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – which flouted the rules by taking five months to respond – has argued that the document was never finished and that releasing it now risks creating “confusion and misunderstanding”.

Ratcliffe warns that Britain’s energy policy is “all over the place”

Europe and the UK’s approach to energy policy is 'all over the place' and eroding the region’s security and growth prospects, Jim Ratcliffe has said in an announcement confirming Ineos’s plans to expand its oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Norway to re-open gasfields closed down last century

Norway is reopening three gasfields that it shut down last century to meet demand for gas from Germany and the UK, two of Norway’s biggest customers. The three North Sea fields will restart production in 2028, four decades after they last pumped out any gas, with Norway’s biggest three political parties all firmly in favour of drilling for more oil and gas.

EU blocks funds for key Chinese solar energy parts

The EU has blocked public funding for Chinese providers of a key technology used to install solar panels and other energy infrastructure, citing security concerns in Brussels’ latest crackdown on sensitive China-made imports. The European Commission said imported inverters used to control solar panel installations and other energy technology represented one of “the most pressing threats” to the EU’s critical infrastructure and could be use to manipulate energy networks across the bloc and gain “unauthorised access to operational data”.
