Real estate agent Janet Dickson is unrepentant, saying she would refuse course if given another chance

A real estate agent on the verge of losing her licence after being denied an exemption from a compulsory Māori tikanga course says if she had her time again, she would still refuse to do it.

“It’s totally irrelevant to the everyday work of real estate.

“That we should learn to bow down to the Māori gods. That’s a major part. I downloaded the course book to see what it was about ... and I’m going, pardon? You’re asking me to do what?” Janet Dickson told NZME.

“It’s [my real estate work] to do with property; it’s nothing to do with spiritual gods and tikanga.”....

MAPAS review hasn’t proven scheme is ‘clear case of racial discrimination’ - Seymour
ACT leader and Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour says a university medical programme that targets Māori and Pacific students is built on “racial discrimination”, and a new review hasn’t proven otherwise.

But the University of Auckland is backing the programme, which it says plays a “vital role in closing the gaps” and building up the Māori and Pacific doctor workforce.

ACT has been staunchly opposed to the Māori and Pacific Admissions Scheme (MAPAS) at the Auckland and Otago universities, which the universities say is intended to grow diversity of health professionals by removing some of the barriers to study.

The review of MAPAS was part of the National-ACT coalition agreement and the Ministry of Health has now completed the review, but it is yet to be released publicly.....
