I am
perfectly within my rights to do this whatever the nature of the decision,
including whether to submit myself for medical treatment. Unless I can be shown
to lack mental competence, I can refuse even life-saving treatment, and the
medics would have to go along with it – I don’t actually have to give reasons
at all.
And of
course I can use the same approach to decision-making when it comes to my kids.
After all, they are an extension of me. It’s my parental right, right?
Um, no, not
quite.
