Media people love reporting on the media. As a result when media companies start shedding services, people or programmes in this case, it can become the biggest story in town.

And so we’ve had the news items, the coverage of meetings with staff, and finally the announcement about where to next. Compare the coverage to any other company or government department decreasing personnel numbers at the moment and you get the idea.

If anyone thinks Stuff producing the 6pm news bulletin on Three is the answer to viewers’ prayers they are dreaming. This is a marriage made in heaven if you want a continuation of the very reasons Newshub finds itself in the position it is in. If you were one hoping for a change of direction, by which viewing the news would be a more positive experience, then this is more likely to be a marriage made in hell. Imagine Tova O’Brien on our screens at dinner time. Regurgitation of the evening meal is a distinct possibility.

Do Stuff know how to make television? How many people will they actually hire as opposed to re-purposing the staff they already have? Does the programme draw an audience? Will it look anything like what we are used to?
