JC: NZ’s School Curriculum Is a Disgrace

What happened in NZ before 1840? Nothing.

Having a late read of the July 2nd Sunday Star Times, I came across an article written by a young lady by the name of Gabrielle McCullough. I’ll refrain from calling her a journalist in the true sense of the word as reflective of the so-called profession she is attached to. I’m not saying she’s not somewhat qualified; Gabrielle appears to be quite a bright young thing.

For example, between December 2021 and February 2022 at the Auckland University of Technology, she researched, wrote, filmed and edited a series of 10 videos on journalistic concepts. These videos will be used to teach tertiary-level journalism students. Hmm…I won’t waste time trying to discover what the concepts might be. You can probably work it out for yourself.

In “Stuff” for 2nd July 2023 there appears a piece by one Gabrielle McCullough, entitled “Racist Propaganda; The undercover campaign to infiltrate school libraries.” Wow! “Undercover”? That’s good, since the weapons used in this alleged “campaign” were actually books!! Hard covers or soft??

These books were published by independent publisher, Tross, of Khandallah, Wellington. Librarian Julia Smith at one school was “shocked” to find that a teacher had bought a couple of Tross books which were already on her library shelves. As the Stuff article continues:

Which version of NZ history are they teaching?

Last week a Northland school librarian hurriedly removed history books from a high school library lest student minds become contaminated by the “racist” propaganda. Why the panic, you ask, and how did the books get there?

2023 is the first year that NZ history is a compulsory subject in schools. Stuff have outdone themselves with accounts of horrifying reactions to books on NZ history that challenge the “authorised” (substitute sanitised) version of the Treaty, essential to implementing co-governance, separate Maori law and institutions.

John Robinson: Nazis burnt books

On Saturday 4 December 2021, TV1 News broadcast an appeal to bookstores to refuse to stock books by Tross Publishing – effectively a call to ban the books. I was referred to explicitly, and the program was illustrated by the covers of two of my books, The corruption of New Zealand democracy; a Treaty overview (2011) and He Puapua: Blueprint for breaking up New Zealand (2021). That vicious and unfounded attack implicates me.

The TV1 journalist, Te Aniwa Hurihanganui, first contacted Tross Publishing asking for my e-mail address. Our reply was that this would be provided if the reporting was fair and accurate: “Dr. Robinson would be prepared to discuss this important issue openly so long as he be accorded fair treatment by your media outlet.”
