David Farrar: No one owns water, but someone makes a lot of money from it!

NewstalkZB reports:

Watercare is under fire for keeping a $20 million deal with Waikato-Tainui under wraps.

It’s been revealed the Auckland Council-controlled water provider last year signed up to paying $1 million a year, for two decades.

You don’t need to own something, if the law requires your permission for consents to use it. You still can extract rental income from it.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders.

Why ????
How do Watercare justify this gift ?
Somesort of obligatory koha ?
If we were to follow the money, where does it end up ?

Smells like a rat to me.

Ans I'll bet it was a nameless , woke, greenstone pendent wearing nobody who signed off this waste of the rate payer's money.

The Maori mafia make a lot of "koha" from it.

Same thing has happened with Ngāi Tahu allegedly extracting $100mill from Meridian as their price for agreeing to renewals of consents to continue generating electricity from the Waitaki River. This appears to be Iwi rent-seeking pure and simple and is an odious blight on our democracy.

What they seem to be after for Maori NZ is a rentier economy - an economy largely based on renting out access to natural resources to outsiders. Well, if it works for the elites of the oil-producing countries, why not for this lot........ except of course that the 'outsiders' are fellow NZers.
