David Farrar: The greatest intelligence operation in recent history

The details of the Mossad operation against Hezbollah is so incredible, you would think it would be implausible as a film plot. They include.
  • Built 5,000 pagers and sold them to Hezbollah
  • Each pager weighed less than 80 grams
  • Had a special two-step de-encryption procedure that ensured most users would be holding the pager with both hands when it detonated, as it was an encrypted message that was the trigger. This meant it was likely the Hezbollah members would have such severe damage to their hands they couldn’t hold a gun in future.
  • The bomb component was so carefully hidden as to be virtually undetectable and it is understood Hezbollah did disassemble some of the pagers and may have even X-rayed them yet didn’t detect anything.
  • The booby-trapped walkie-talkies were sold to Hezbollah in 2015, and were undeterred for nine years
  • The walkie-talkies gave Israel complete access to Hezbollah communications
All forms of warfare result in some casualties of people who are not military targets. For example 500,000 German civilians died in WWII. But this operation probably saw one of the smallest level of non-targeted deaths in recent times.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders.

This was an indiscriminate terrorist attack.

It was an attack on indiscriminant terrorists.

Is David Farrah really not only admitting to, but celebrating, a vast, complex, long-term, and highly coordinated Jewish conspiracy to advance the interests of Jews at the expense of non-Jews? Because, if he is, he'd be called an antisemite and denounced as a far-right neo-Nazi and conspiracy theorist if posted this sort of hateful bile on his Kiwiblog.

Imagine if a Palestinian New Zealand blogger posted about how ingenious the October 7 attack was and how skillfully Hamas orchestrated an incursion against their unwitting Jewish victims. People like David Farrah would be screaming about how antisemitic, heartless and depraved that blogger was. But when the shoes on the other foot, all the double standards and moral relativism are there for all the world to see, if they have eyes to see it.

What a pointless article. DF is being a gaslighting fundamentalist on this issue; unable to face facts that contradicts his world view.

War almost always means the raping, torture & murder of women & children. He doesn’t get to dismiss civilian deaths as mere casualties of war just because it suits him. And to assume the German civilian casualties (who, like the Israelis, would have been benefiting from the persecution of the Jews), would have all died cleanly / within the rules of war at the hands of the Russians & allies, is just ignorant.

But if he wants to be cavalier about the death of human beings - penetrating the most secure State in the world, with the most powerful ally in the world, with parachuting terrorists, is far more Hollywood than hiding little bombs in pagers than took 9 years to accidentally go off.

Hezbollah & Hamas being the bad guys doesn’t make Israel the good guys.

DF said it was " special two-step de-encryption procedure that ensured most users would be holding the pager with both hands when it detonated, as it was an encrypted message that was the trigger". I for one immediately checked all my IT equipment and guess what Israeli partners include Samsung, Cisco, Dell. I don't want this stuff in mt house and will be buying Chinese or anything else as soon as possible.

No sane person can be accepting of the death of thousands of innocents in Gaza or Beirut but when 99.9% of the Arab world want Israel obliterated from the earth, can you blame them for taken action to prevent that from happening?
Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. And it is a Christian country. That must be a huge irritant to the Muslum neighbours.

Anon 6:59 am - Judaism & Christianity are mutually exclusive. The Christian hate (ironic) of the Jews has been well-documented throughout history, with the most horrific recent example being
Germany. The Catholics didn’t need much convincing when Hitler said they would get sick if they sat on the same bench as a Jew.
This is why so many Jews stand with Palestine. They can see the parallels.

DF is right about the cleverness and cunning of being able to develop the technology and then persuade Hezbollah to purchase these pagers. There was civilian casualties but few compared the alternative means usually employed to do that amount of damage. Israel is abused when they use missiles to target these terrorists but also abused when they use precise methods.

Anyone who chooses to play hardball with the Israelis should expect to get badly hurt.
