David Farrar: Reserve Bank out of control

I don;’t understand how the Reserve Bank is exempt from the restraint that applies to the rest of the public sector agencies. For 10 years the Bank ran well with around 250 staff and now it has almost 650.

You need to consider who us running the Reserve Bank. The vast majority are Jacinda appointees. The chairman of the board is a woke academic who used to be vice chancellor of Waikato University. There are two Maori language experts who have no experience in macro economics. A professional manager/ pharmacist, again with no economic background. Then a couple of investors. Last year an economist was appointed but that appears to be temporary. Of the staff, only about 30 are economists. It's just another woke government department with more concerns about Maori language and expanding themselves rather than performing.

Orr locked in by Robertson for 5 years till 2028 to ruin 2 electoral cycles. Trump would just intervene and correct this .....

Great article David. You appear to be a step ahead of everyone. I have a good feeling that because of you this dept will become scrutinised in the near future. Woke Reserve bank, watch out we are coming for you.

Orr is easily distracted from the RBNZ’s core function. How many of the new staff are in roles related to climate change, maori/treaty stuff, DEI, digital currency investigations and comms/propaganda?

How come the worst minister of finance in the history of NZ was able to extend Orr’s dreadful tenure but the current govt chooses not to reverse the travesty. Timid?

Rob excellent point. I personally would remove the terrible Orr tomorrow if I could. Orrs name will be remembered for a very long time, in a bad way, linked with the worst preforming govt in this countries history. Not something to be proud of really. Get the guy out asap.
