David Farrar: A boost for teachers

The Herald reports:

The Government has announced a $53 million boost for teacher registrations and practising certificates fees through to 2028.

Education Minister Erica Stanford said it will also cover any increases the Teaching Council may implement through their current fee review.

From July 1, teachers will save up to $550 when applying for registration or renewing their practising certificate, Stanford said in a statement.

Many teachers are not that highly paid, so the renewal fee was a significant cost to them. I’m comfortable with the Government funding the Teachers’ Council directly, but with that should come stricter fiscal discipline.

Ridiculous. A major factor in the decline of our education is the preoccupation of the Teaching Council with race, sex and Marxism indoctrination. The only limitation to their excesses has been the cost, reflected in the fee for teachers. A year or two ago the govt feebly attempted to reign them in by reducing subsidy. Resistance of teachers to ever increasing fee was the other brake. Now instead of concentrating on latest govt syllabus requirements the TC will be able to continue more of the disastrous same. This govt is making very many foolhardy decisions.

They call themselves teachers but indoctrinators would be a better description. Not their fault , but the culprit being ideologues in our educational institutions.

Alternative schools like Michaela school in London , which has spectacular academic results in a school drawing on children from one of the poorest suburbs doesn't use teachers from the present, education system but those prepared to use traditional methods. These are methods that actually are effective.
