A faction in Te Pāti Māori is urging the party to change from racial activism to peopleism.
Spokesperson Moana Nikau says that TPM, its MPs and policies are political poison to all but a tiny group of radical supporters of the grievance industry.
”We’ll never be part of government until our MPs behave like lawmakers rather than larrikins. We must move from protest to peopleism.
“We must accept Treaty Settlements as full and final, and once settled that should be an end to grievances.
”We’ve got to put the past behind us and work with other New Zealanders to ensure both legislation and actions recognise that what matters most is our common humanity,” she said.
”We must change fro racist activists to peopleists. That means policies that treat people as people, acknowledging and supporting individual differences and personal agency, and we must stop the stupidity of lumping all Tangata Whenua together while othering everyone else.
Ms Nikau said a special general meeting of the party had been called for 10am and would conclude at midday.

Will believe that when I see it!
At least TPM are honest about what they want, which is the same as the gangs and the Maori elite want. Labour promise a lot of things which benefit all NZers, but as soon as they are in power they break the promises and pursue Te Puapua.
Good on her. She sounds like she would be better suited to NZ first or Act.
Ele, its not April 1st anymore.
I must be dreaming! A spokesperson for the Maori Party who appears NOT to be a racist and cultural supremacist. Really?
Knowing the other crazies she has to convince I suspect she won't last long. She'll probably defect to the Greens.
I find this hard to believe. What are these lunatics playing at. Don't believe anything, I say anything, that comes from their mouths. Trust tpm even less. Leopards don't change their spots.
It was April 1 when I posted that, and clearly marked it as satire.
It'll be interesting to see if she gets out of that meeting in one piece.
