I have recently returned home after a couple of days in the local regional hospital.
In the latter 24hours after the health professionals had diagnosed what was wrong with me and taken the initial steps prescribing medicines that would put me on the road to recovery, time began to drag while waiting for an honourable discharge.
During the time from admission until when the staff had completed all the tests, I was in a pretty bad way and happy just to let the nurses and doctors do all the prodding, draining and checking they needed to do in order to turn my life around.
While my condition wasn’t particularly life threatening this time, had I been left to deal with it at home, it may well have become so pretty quickly and for that reason alone, I am left to reflect on what might have been had the ambulance not arrived when it did.
You see, in modern society in a country like New Zealand, it is easy for most people to take all this laid-on world class health care system for granted. And in spite of what the activists say about the things we could easily spend more taxpayers money on, for most people, the service is pretty darned good and definitely world class.
If it wasn’t, why do think there are foreign health professionals queuing up to staff our hospitals.
It’s simply because the pay and conditions are infinitely better than their country of origin.
We clearly don’t know how lucky we are!
I suppose it isn’t surprising that public services like health care and education are almost always the main political footballs used by politicians when campaigning for our votes. What else do we have to complain about in Godzone?
Apart from people with genuine disabilities or chronic health issues, the job market provides options for most seeking full time work.
Sure you can get considerably more money for your skills by crossing the ditch to work in a economy that is based on minerals that are in insatiable world wide demand but in most cases, here in NZ, opportunities exist that provide adequate incomes and career paths that allow most kiwis to raise and educate a family without leaving home.
What more do we need or want?
Sure there will always be the attraction for those who want to check out opportunities to travel and even emigrate to other countries that offer more for them personally but the decision to relocate permanently is usually an individual choice and not one that is forced on families because of a limited job market or lack of government support services.
My lifetime experience in this country shows clearly that anybody with a sense of self worth will have no difficulty finding a career path that suits their intellectual capabilities and job skills.
We are so lucky to live in a country where we have these choices which are not dependant on the nature of one’s birth or the colour of one’s skin.
Unfortunately, not everybody appreciates the accuracy of that statement and are for whatever reason, trying to divide us into groups based on race where the minority control what happens to rest of us.
This is “apartheid” in reverse and no amount of wailing and mis-use of government support agencies will justify this blatant attempt to destroy the nation that our forebears fought and died to maintain.
If need be, as one multi cultural nation, we need to eliminate this cancerous growth before its spreads to the rest of the body.
There is no time left for equivocation about what to do next.
The wolf is at the door.
We are all collectively responsible for what happens next.
The one thing Ex PM Ardern got right was when she suggested - “Let’s do it!”
The time is right so why not.

It is now 80 years since the world was saved by war against war and hatred in 1945.
The 2025 NZ Budget has to have some reality about debt and wasteful spending . The budget appropriations have to be cut to the government income , not estimates but reality. Future debt and interest payments to be targetted . NZ Pensions raised incrementally to 70 years by 4 monthly increments, HAVE to be made and addressed this budget as it is unsupportable at current costs .
Real issues like Paris Accord costs, Net Zero costs are crippling farming and industry.
End Officially recognition of ethnicity in New Zealand which is gutting the nation by division.
Remove all the excess minstry baggage from parliament and halt all appropriations to all departments that include racism or racist wording in ANY form .
We have to point NZ in the direction of growth and individual , regional and International respect and If Luxon and Co disagree , have a snap election and prove his irrational thoughts .
Take Care Clive , your contributions are always on point and welcomed.

That psychopath narcissist just happened to quote Gary Gilmore.
Death row inmate that chose being shot.
Excellent article describing the very positive aspects of living in this wonderful country called New Zealand.
There is so much to be proud of and to enjoy here.
However, as you point out, the racist enemy within is becoming more active and trying to divide our nation into an apartheid state.
If this is not stopped, our country will become a divided mess with a racist tribal minority demanding to have power over us all - New Zimbabwe.
Execellent and seemingly accurate Clive. However, and I quote: "...This is “apartheid” in reverse ...". IMHO there is nothing 'reverse' about it. It is out-and-out "apartheid". To suggest it is 'reverse' is to infer that apartheid is a particularly 'western' construct only ever evident in South Africa. There are numenrous examples, historic and extant that would indicate otherwise.
Exactly, Bail.
As I have posted previously..
A truly progressive move would be to end all official recognition of race or ethnicity in all legislation.
With race/ethnicity no longer having official status, there could be:-
NO more race-based seats or race-specific party in Parliament.
NO more race-based wards in local government.
NO more census questions about ethnicity.
NO more co-governance, and NO more basis for claims of unending victimhood.
NO Waitangi Tribunal !
NO APARTHEID "co-governance"
Edit (sort of), NIKE bossman admitted he liked Gary Gilmores last words and changed them to 'their' current 'just do it'.
Sorry - this division is very much further advanced than you seem to suggest. Even irreversible now.
When read medical books aimed at the American public realise how lucky we are. The lowliest person here is prescibed for very freely. Americans have to ponder if they can afford statins, the better heart pressure drugs or any, etc and for how long. Those sufficently prudent not to accumulate depreciating savings are likely to get all paid, and if maor, probably a lengthy highly subsidied very accomodating consultatiom.
Having just completed an unplanned internal assessment of the country’s health system, at least in one hospital, I too appreciate its high standard. Of course, it’s not perfect, but then what institution involving humans is? One thing is certain; without Asian immigrants, who bring the full range of professional qualifications and are invariably highly motivated, the system would likely collapse.
