Under the govt’s coalition agreement NZ First is instigating a review of the Waitangi Tribunal. There is no guarantee this will bring about meaningful change. Winston and Shane can sure talk a good game - especially in the 12-18mths prior to an election. But the $64mil question is what are they actually going to achieve? Rome is burning…
Who would dare do this now?
The Tribuna is becoming more amd more incestuous. No one not strongly maori aligned dares become involved. Like Prebble they realise that they would be a lone voice against the many on the Tribunal and the vast staff and be totally ostracised. Who wants to buy into that? Politicians in the past (and still) have been very careless of the wording of much legislation. With often simple seeming maori persons fronting in parliament, the others totally underestimated the degree of organised artful cunning directing and backing them from without.
In total agreement, Michael. It is a agency that is completely biased, has assumed importance that it does not posess, and is the Chief Pot-stirrer of racial divisiveness. As you said, it has done its job. Anything further emanaring from it will further undo the work it has completed. Get rid of it now. Oh for a PM who listens to the voters and has the wherewithal to implement their wishes. Just like the UK, National appears to be a disappearing Party. Can David Seymour become the Nigel Farage of New Zealand. I think most of us hope so.
People must realize that NZ has reached a point where these bodies - especially the WT - are too powerful to challenge. The radical Maori response is to threaten violence.
It’s way past due.
What chance when we have an invertebrate for a P.M.
