Chlöe was kicked out, Brownlee suspended her for a week and all of the Government parties voted for that punishment - and that includes New Zealand First, before Winston Peters then got up to tell Jerry Brownlee that the punishment wasn't fair, even though he just voted for the punishment.
And then Debbie got up and said the C-word again.
Now, Chlöe did actually break the rules. I mean, this is another one of those seemingly arbitrary or hard to explain rules in Parliament - that MPs can't accuse each other of being cowards.
Nick Smith did it in 2003, he accused MPs across the house of not having the spine to debate a vote. He withdrew and apologized.
Steve Chadwick did it in 2007, she accused the opposition of being absolutely gutless and spineless. She withdrew and apologized.
John Key did it in 2015, quite famously when he yelled at Labour to get some guts over the war, but he got away with it and actually probably shouldn't have.
So Chlöe did break the rules.
But then, Debbie got up and said the C-word, and she didn't break the rules. So explain that. How is accusing other MPs of being spineless worse than dropping the C-bomb in the House of Representatives?
I mean, sure, one is aimed at someone and the other one is just a swear word that's been dropped. But when you get into explaining that level of nuance on offensiveness, I think you've lost the audience.
Plus, why is Gerry Brownlee all of a sudden the tough cop?
I mean, this is the guy who was wringing his hands over the Māori Party getting kicked out of Parliament for 3 weeks for the haka in David Seymour's face and for refusing to turn up to the Privileges Committee and for them leaking the recommended punishment from the Privileges Committee.
But when Chlöe says basically the same thing that John Key once said without punishment, Jerry comes down on her like a ton of bricks.
Frankly, none of this makes sense anymore.
I mean, it does on a level of detail and minutia, sure, but explaining it to a normal person, no sense whatsoever.
But guess who's loving this? Chlöe's loving this, because Chlöe's learned from Te Pāti Māori and the haka that there's one surefire way to get attention, and that's to break the rules of Parliament and not be sorry.
What a circus.

Because we employ clowns!!
And in the middle of the fun Gerry can rename our country.
Seriously, how many in the whole house would you employ to sweep your drive.
From cowboy hats and berets to Palestinian table cloths and humongous pieces of meaningless stones hanging from necks to facial ink splashes, it has hall become a theatre of insanity on the opposition benches while a bamboozled speaker looks on like a startled owl caught in headlights.
Imagine the fun that is yet to come with chloe as finance minister of NZ! I want parliament to go back to being boring old white men in suits. I was thinking the other day, that before covid, there was no real need to think about the government or what they were doing. They were largely outside of our lives. There were no politics in schools or workplaces. Now that parliament is full of activists, extremists, wokesters and commies, we have no choice but to pay attention. They have become front and centre. This is what they want of course.
Try to imagine what the NZ parliament must look like to a visitor from a civilised country where people behave civilly.
Heather at last is onto it. National is intellectually bankrupt - led by a detergent salesman who can't even coherently explain his position on the Treaty because he has none -other than the shambolic status quo. Let alone can he do any economics - apart from copying what he thinks made John Key successful. Meanwhile Labour's Hipkins, the guy who mistakenly locked down Auckland for months even after elimination was a lost cause - and ripped the guts out of its economy, trashing the education of a generation of Kiwi children - still wants to be PM. The Greens have become just plain nasty - and have more interest in attacking Israel than protecting NZ's environment - which is irrelevant to them now. Te Pati Maori wants to either overthrow the government and declare a new State - or go for an NZ "two State solution" which is working out so great in the Middle East. And our MPs think we should respect them? Our parliament has become not worth the paper that its written on. Our MPs are lazy and incompetent. I have nothing to with them anymore. Meeting with them became an embarrassing joke.
Don't elect MP's until they are 50 yrs old as then they (should) have some experience in life and know what responsibility means both to themselves and society. Also, don't recruit teachers until they are 30 yrs old as they need to leave school first to see how the outside world functions. Then, also, it is a choice made with more wisdom to be able to determine sensible outcomes for us all.
Fully AGREE. "Senate" of ancient democracy was the "elders" in the Forum. Senates are badly neeeeded today - especialy in NZ with no Upper House. And totally agree that teachers are just big kids with no REAL world experience. Dangerous.
Gerry Brownlee needs to do his job or be replaced. Mallard got rid of the dress standards. Brownlee needs to bring them back and ban the terrorists' garb.
