Frank Newman: Garrick Tremain

Garrick Tremain

Sadly, we have been informed that Garrick Tremain passed away painlessly and peacefully last evening in Lakes Hospital.
Garrick was a truly outstanding individual.
Not only was he the most talented political cartoonist of our generation, but the man behind the pencil was witty, insightful, fearless, compassionate, and humble.
RIP Garrick.

Frank Newman, a writer, investment analyst, and Director of the NZCPR, is a former local body councillor.

Oh that's very sad. I didn't always agree with his sentiments but he clearly had a great insight into so many aspects of NZ society. Go well, Mr Tremain.

They broke the mould unfortunately and there are very few who had the insight, sense of humour, political nous and guts that Garrick displayed. Vale.

So very sad,we have lost a great kiwi.I had only recently come across Garricks workings.I would suggest you look him up. From wonderful rural sketches and paintings to "liar liar your pants are on fire" what a range of talent.
Many thanks to Sean Plunket for his excellent series of mini interviews with Garrick just recently.Great stuff. LOOK THEM UP.

Garrick Tremain’s autobiography “ This is it then” captures the life of an iconic kiwi leaving his fans something to treasure. Not many leave their mark but Garrick delivered in spades. His worldly maturity enabled him to stomp all over parliamentary pomposity in a style that won him acclaim from we kiwis.
RIP Garrick, you will be sorely missed.
