Miliband to miss clean power target by three years
Despite all the pain for British billpayers, a new report warns Miliband is set to miss his 2030 clean power target by three years. There’s not a hope in hell Miliband meets his target for 2030, or by 2033 for that matter.
NZW: UK’s renewables fleet will need to be shut down
Writing for the Net Zero Watch blog, Andrew Montford, the Director, argues that if the UK ever wants to get back to cheap electricity then future policymakers will need to close down the renewables fleet. Ratcliffe slams UK’s “idiotic” carbon taxes
Billionaire businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has slammed Net Zero carbon levies as “the most idiotic tax in the world”. Tories unveil new ICE and defence investment policies through green cuts
Kemi Badenoch has said the Tories will ditch the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars if the party wins the next election.
Elsewhere, the party said Net zero projects and “nonsense” research grants would be scrapped under Tory plans to set up a £50bn “sovereign defence fund”.
Coutinho: voters were sold a lie on Net Zero
Claire Coutinho has conceded the Conservative Party previously made errors on Net Zero saying they “should never have signed up to something without knowing the price tag”. She says voters had been “promised if we built all these wind farms… we would get cheap energy. And it’s just not true”.

EU abandons ICE ban
The European Union has abandoned plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035, bowing to pressure from Germany and Italy. The plan also helps Europe’s beleaguered car industry – which has faced job cuts and factory closures. The change comes as part of the EU’s pro-business push that has seen it pare back environmental laws this year, claiming they risk weighing on growth.
Ford to scale back EV plans for the US
Ford is backing away from plans to manufacture large electric vehicles citing lacklustre demand and recent regulatory changes. The company will cancel its new electric van to focus on manufacturing gas and hybrid models. Ford said it expects its profits to take a $19.5bn hit as a result of the strategic shift. The US changes come as the European Union is expected to water down its plan to effectively ban new combustion engine cars from 2035.
