David Farrar: Is it a party or a family?

The Herald has documents in relation to the court case between Te Pati Maori and Mariameno Kapa-Kingi. What is fascinating is how they reveal the extent of the Tamihere family control of the party. It goes well beyond what we already knew. Here is what has been revealed:
  • President: John Tamihere
  • Co-leader: Rawiri Waititi, son-in-law of John Tamihere
  • General Manager: Kiri Tamihere Waititi, daughter of Tamihere
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Lance Norman, employed by John Tamihere’s WOCA
  • Waiariki electorate co-chair: Monica Waititi, sister-in-law of Rawiri
  • Te Tai Hauāuru electorate chair: Hinemoana Durie-Shedlock, sister-in-law of John Tamihere
  • Ikaroa-Rawhiti electorate chair: Te Rina Lemon, niece of John Tamihere
So a majority of the officers and at least three of the seven electorates are all linked to one man.

Could you imagine this occurring in any other party?

This would be like the National Party that has Bill English as Leader, Maria English as General Manager, Maria’s husband as a deputy leader, Mary’s sister as a regional chair, Libby English as another regional chair and Jo Coughlan as a third regional chair. It would be unthinkable.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders

Ha! Don't be culturally insensitive: giving extended family members plumb jobs essential in certain cultures to avoid shame. Others hire insiders as well. Look at NZ university management when the old boy and old girl network explains hiring.

Interesting revelation but is anyone actually surprised by it? And wasn't Nanaia Mahuta an equally adept practicioner of these dark arts?
What does astound me is that NZ retains such a high ranking on the world anti-corruption table

Not at all surprising, just tikanga in action. On that, the Jackson involvement with the running of MUMA is generational and what of the allegations of bullying by the current CEO (Willie Jackson's wife) and WJ's inappropriate involvement in arranging the removal of Board members and the silencing things? Yet more skulldggery swept under the carpet when it comes to the way of Maori? And did TPM ever file those required returns, or is that just another matter quietly forgotten? Our msm are certainly lazy and very selective of what they report. It's past time to defund.

In a word -" nepotism".

Nothing Maori about it. Just good old fashioned family values hard at work. And doesn't every well-ordered family, whatever their hue, need a patriarch to provide leadership and enforce compliance with said values. What could possibly go wrong?

Hilarious bunkum. Since the Nat & Labour Parties in NZ and their endless appointees of retired MPs and mates like Robertson to VC of Otago University, Joyce, English to chair housing review, Bridges, Paula Bennett to Chair of Pharmac when she has not one clue about drugs, Murry McCully, and an army of inbred chums that are so many that I could fill pages and pages - these types trying to paint Te Pati Maori as inbred - what a hypocritical laugh. Quite the contrary. Never have I seen such inbred no hopers appointed to top positions as the mates of our National & Labour parties, not to mention the old boys & girls club of useless accountants & lawyers who mostly know each other and fill NZ corporate boards. Beware stereotyping Farrar when your own party symbolizes chumocracy. Its the true reason why productivity is low in NZ. Dummies have taken over.

The last time I saw a family List like this, it was for a small Island in the Caribbean, named Cuba and the Family was Castro.

The influential control of what is the modern tribe equivalent largely by a singe chief like figure would suggest that what is effectively rangatiratanga is alive and well in accord with the Treaty. Whether or not it should be vehemently defended and extended is questionable.
