Labour is to ban new oil and gas fields in Britain, making it far harder for any future government to reopen the North Sea. A legal prohibition on new drilling in the energy independence bill will make Ed Miliband’s temporary moratorium on new drilling permanent. Labour also plans to legally ban onshore fracking.

US makes £500m from UK’s jet fuel crisis
US fuel companies have made almost £500m selling jet fuel to Britain amid an acute shortage triggered by the Iran war. Imports from the US hit nearly 400,000 tonnes in April, a tenfold increase on a year ago. Jet fuel output from UK refineries has plummeted following a series of closures.

Car manufacturer Honda has posted its first annual loss in 70 years - and it has blamed its investments in electric vehicles. The Japanese motor giant said demand for EVs has not been as strong as the company had forecast, as it revealed total operating losses for the year ending March 2026 of £1.99billion.
