There's some speculation that the decision was made on the fly and might not have been fully thought out.
He didn't seem so certain about himself as he walked away from the press cameras.
But it's no surpise as TOP is not a natural bedfellow of the right.
But the perception has got about that they're what you call Teals. A Blue Green centre party.
They're certainly not that. their policies are quite radical.
The Universal Benefit and land taxes.
And National is a party that have simplified their stance down to no spending and no taxes.
And behind the scenes they have some interesting staff.
Names like Iain Lees-Galloway, who is the General Manager.
His business partner is Toni Grace, Chris Hipkins' partner.
Their number 3 candidate is Kayla Kingdom-Bedd, an author of the He Puapua report.
She has worked with James Shaw, the ousted leader from the Green Party at the Worldwide fund for Nature.
Many speculate it's a left-wing party in disguise.
So maybe Christopher Luxon was right to follow his gut.
But at the same time the statement validates the chances of a party who have never cracked the threshold and are only commanding attention right now because they're new, and not part of the old elite and trending up.
And people are sick of the old tried and true for not being very true.
But personally, I won't give them the time of day.
They've got a long way to go before they prove they're here for the long haul and really have something to offer.

Yes, he was absolutely right to rule them out. Every party should rule them out. One less marxist party in parliament is what we need.
Absolutely luxon was correct. The Top party make Mamdani of New York look like a raging capitalist! If we end up with the left getting in because of it, then that is completely the voters fault. He probably thinks if kiwi's are stupid enough to say huge taxes, total maorification, poverty, crime, communism, food shortages, more homeless, wealthy moving thei jobs overseas etc, is what they want to vote for, then that's what they will get.
He did it on the fly. The political niavity of this man is astounding. He would have been better to just rule them out if their tax policy was to become a bottom line in the event that TOP (Temporary Opportunistic Party) were to reach the threshold.
TOP are trending only because they are offering free money - the UBI- but that is in no small part paid for by death taxes on pensioner homeowners, who, incidentally, don’t get the free money after 65. For more info read the preceding article on an analysis of TOP’s taxes.
National has become a teal party, so surely they would make good bedfellows.
LUXON was 100 percent CORRECT to rule out working with those snake oil merchants.
TOP make me feel like my skin is crawling.
If you want to freak yourselves out further, check out The Opportunity Party website. Click on Just launched our breakthrough economy policy. Scroll down to meet the kiwis of tomorrow crew.
It gives names of future kiwis and a story about what jobs they will do. I have never read so much propaganda in my life. Clearly there won't be many european kiwi's in their future nz.
Anon 12:31, totally agree and look at the stupid cartoon characters. The whole site is aimed at non-literates who's life is their phone and tik tok. The site feels like something an "influencer" would put together to sell snake oil. And BTW, does anyone know what the party line is regarding the huge property holdings of Maori corporations like Ngi Tahu? Do they get a pass, special lower rates all because they are, well, special people? What about corporate tax rates on income? Special rates for special "oh so spiritual" special racial tribal businesses?
