Bruce Cotterill: Employment is a two way street
Labels: 90-day trials, Bruce CotterillThere’s a bit of a storm brewing around the new government’s proposed workplace reforms.
True to the National and Act campaign manifestos, and to their combined coalition agreements they’re moving quickly to change the regulations around fair pay agreements and the re-introduction of 90 day trials.
Predictably, there are the usual naysayers who are upset at the government moves. Of course, the Unions usually come out in force when these types of changes are mooted, largely because such changes are a threat to their existence.

John MacDonald: I don't have a problem with 90-day trials
Labels: 90-day trials, John MacDonaldWhen I started at Newstalk ZB, I was on a 90-day trial, of sorts. So, if I can make it through, anyone can.
Seriously though, the honchos here said "we want to give you a go. How about doing it for three months and then you’ll know if you really want it and we’ll know if you’re the person for the job.”
That was two-and-a-half years ago. I was in my early 50s, two of the kids were still living at home, we were still paying a mortgage, but I thought ‘sod it, I’m going to give it a go’.
