Sir Bob Jones: COVID Hysteria

To date over 40% of our population have now been infected with covid and circa 1500 currently cop it each new week. Some die, some suffer a nasty flu-like reaction, others are virtually unaffected. Mask-wearing is now almost unknown.

As with the rest of the civilised world, we’ve learnt to live with it and get on with life, just as we’ve always done with numerous life-threatening risks, be it driving, swimming, physically demanding sport and so on.

In short, we’re finally now treating it as so many, myself included on this site, argued three years back. Instead, we copped the government’s grossly authoritarian actions up until six months back, with ludicrously oppressive lockdown rules to a degree that will forever remain a stain on our history. And in an election year, the Prime Minister delivering totally unnecessary daily 1 pm television broadcasts from the pulpit of truth to a fear-ridden nation will go down as the greatest abuse of public office in this country’s history. The political value of such excessive television exposure was huge, as the last election revealed.

As I’ve often written, Labour governments have commendably shaped modern New Zealand for the better, notwithstanding some inevitable blunders and excesses. But I have absolutely no doubt the current one, with the perspective of time, will be recorded as the most incompetent and socially and economically destructive in our history.

They leave a legacy of massive needless debt, a badly damaged economy with thousands of small businesses destroyed, a history of slap-dash financial irresponsibility and ironically, of an unknown but reportedly sizeable number of preventable deaths with the ceasure of life-saving operations following the closure of surgical activity for a lengthy period in 2021. But perhaps their greatest crime is their disgraceful attempt to abolish the most basic underlying principle of democracy, namely one vote per adult and not the 2% of the population who can claim 50% or more of Maori ethnicity receiving half of the management function of public institutions based on ethnicity. This they described as co-government which they endeavoured to justify on a totally bogus interpretation of the Treaty.

But back to the disgraceful lockdown. With that, I have a simple question the media should put to Chris Hipkins. That is, “You were at the forefront backing the lockdowns. Given that several thousand New Zealanders are currently catching Covid each week and many dying, why was it right then but not now to lock us all down?”

There are ample media reports that more than back up Bob Jones' comments. Individually they went down Orwell's memory hole, but the following article brings them together:
"Jacinda Ardern: Saint or Psychopath?"

I can forgive the initial caution because it was uncharted territory and the 1919 flu was an example to be avoided. But I cannot forgive Jacinda those stage managed tooth flashing TV appearances, and for dragging poor overworked Bloomfiied along for political gain. Nor can I forgive the profligate spending, against all established wisdom and guaranteed to set inflation aflame. Included huge grant to, of all things, a bungy company for some weird reason. Nor can I forgive the disproportionate spending on maori to entice them to responsible vaccination (important with their communal living, sharing of smokes, drinks etc) Nor for the unused allocation re allotted to a myriad unrelated purposes (including marae renovation if I remember correctly).
The agonising over every deceased, including th over 90s, then, compared with the cavalier accepatance now, certainly illustrates the overwhelming power of political considerations.
