DTNZ: Trump again says “Zelensky doesn’t want peace”, halts miliary aid

Washington will not tolerate the Ukrainian leader’s attitude any longer, the US president said.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky doesn’t want to make peace with Russia and exploits US support for his own gain, President Donald has said.

Trump and Zelensky have been feuding over disagreements about the negotiations with Russia and the terms of a possible ceasefire, with Zelensky insisting that the US must first provide security guarantees to Kiev.

On Monday, Trump took to social media to react to a news story by the AP, which quoted Zelensky as saying on Sunday that “an agreement to end the war is still very, very far away, and no one has started all these steps yet.” Zelesky insisted that any peace deal must be “just, honest, and most importantly, sustainable.”

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“This guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing,” he added.

“Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelensky, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the US. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?” Trump wrote.

He argued earlier that Zelensky had “disrespected” the US during a highly contentious meeting in the White House on Friday. According to Trump, Zelensky was going to sign a deal allowing the US to develop Ukraine’s critical minerals deposits. The deal was aborted following Zelensky’s public spat with Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance, who accused Zelensky of being ungrateful for American aid.

Zelensky, who stated last month that Ukraine had a “low chance” of defeating Russia without American support, has expressed frustration that Trump reopened direct talks with Moscow without his approval. Trump has argued that Zelensky was in no position to complain about his handling of the negotiations and has branded him a “dictator.”
Military aid halted

The Wall Street Journal has cited unnamed sources as saying President Trump is also considering freezing arms shipments from US stockpiles.

The US has suspended funding for any new arms sales to Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal has reported, citing unnamed sources.

In an article on Monday, the publication said that Washington “has stopped financing new weapons sales to Ukraine and is considering freezing weapons shipments from US stockpiles.”

Soon after assuming office in January, Trump suspended all foreign aid, including military aid, except to Israel and Egypt, pending a review.

Meanwhile, Axios claimed that Trump would conduct a meeting Monday afternoon on the Ukraine conflict, “including a possible suspension of US military aid.” According to the media outlet, Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and several other senior officials are expected to take part.

The Washington Post, citing an anonymous senior US official, carried a similar report on Monday, saying that Trump would hold a meeting later in the day to “discuss whether to end military assistance to Ukraine.”

The newspaper claimed that aside from stopping arms and equipment deliveries to Kiev, the termination of intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian troops and pilots is also under consideration.

On Sunday, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky predicted that a peace agreement between his country and Russia “is still very, very far away.” He also expressed confidence that despite his acrimonious exchange with Trump and Vance at the White House on Friday, “Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to keep the aid flowing.

Commenting on the Ukrainian leader’s remarks on his Truth Social platform, President Trump described them as the “worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy.” He further warned that “America will not put up with it for much longer,” adding that Zelensky “doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing.”

Speaking to Fox News after the weekend, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz hinted that the “American people’s patience is not unlimited, their wallets are not unlimited, and our stockpiles and munitions are not unlimited.”

The official described Zelensky as the “problem” due to his refusal to “talk peace.”

“Time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict,” Waltz stated.

In an interview with the same outlet on Sunday, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that the Ukrainian leader had been told in no uncertain terms during Friday’s meeting with Trump that further financial support would be contingent on Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate peace with Russia.
White House wants filmed apology

An anonymous source has told Fox News am apology is a precondition for resuming talks on a US-Ukraine minerals deal.

If Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky wants to resume negotiations with the US on a rare earths deal, he will have to publicly apologize for his demeanor during a meeting with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday, Fox News has reported, citing an unnamed American official.

Several weeks prior to the bitter altercation at the White House, Kiev and Washington had been thrashing out an agreement that would have granted the US access to Ukraine’s natural resources. The process has, however, been left in limbo in the wake of Zelensky’s heated faceoff with the American leadership.

In a report on Monday, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy said that “there’s quite a disconnect happening here at the White House with their allies in Kiev.” He further claimed, “I have been told by a senior official here that nothing’s gonna happen with this minerals deal until Zelensky goes in front of cameras and makes an explicit public apology for the way that he behaved… in the Oval Office.”

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian leader himself told the BBC on Sunday that he was willing to continue a “constructive dialogue” with Washington and sign the agreement.

Hours after the confrontational episode on Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio similarly advised Zelensky to apologize “for wasting our time… [and] turning this thing into the fiasco for him that it became.”

The Ukrainian leader, in turn, told Fox News that he did not feel he owed Trump and Vance an apology.

Speaking to the same outlet on Monday, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz described Zelensky as the “problem” due to his refusal to “talk peace.”

“Time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict,” the official said.

On Sunday, Waltz made similar remarks in an interview with CNN, adding that “if it becomes apparent that President Zelensky’s either personal motivations or political motivations are divergent from ending the fighting in his country, then I think we have a real issue on our hands.”

“We need a leader that can deal with us, eventually deal with the Russians, and end this war,” he explained.

The Friday meeting at the White House quickly descended into a shouting match, with Trump accusing his visitor of failure to show gratitude and insisting that Kiev does not “have the cards.” He also stated that Ukraine would have lost to Russia already if not for generous US assistance.
