David Farrar: NZDF portrayal is concerning

From a press release:

Independent investigative reporters Penny Marie and Rachel Scott have released a new video and accompanying Substack articles revealing NZ Defence Force (NZDF) training materials that depict “Christian extremists” as the opposing force on a map clearly modelled on New Zealand’s South Island.

Leaked NZDF documents, reportedly used during exercises at Burnham Military Camp, describe a fictional group called the Visayan People’s Front – a “Christian extremist” organisation said to be recruiting indigenous youth under the banner of “a return to the traditional ways of a Christian nation.” Place names including Murchison, Nelson, St Arnaud, and Rainbow Ski Field appear throughout the exercise scenario.

Could you imagine the outrage if NZDF did an exercise where the opposing force was:
  • Visayan People’s Front – a “Muslim extremist” organisation said to be recruiting indigenous youth under the banner of “a traditional Islamic state.”
  • Visayan People’s Front – a “Maori extremist” organisation said to be recruiting indigenous youth under the banner of “a return to the traditional ways of a pre-colonisation nation.”
It would be a media sh*tstorm that would not stop until NZDF changed it. But when you do Christians, you know the media won’t care.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders

I can imagine it, because it didn’t happen. Can you imagine hand-wringing about something that is a real threat? Have you heard of destiny church and hate-mongerer Brian Tamaki?

I’m not saying Tamaki is a threat but I sure don’t like what happened at Te Atatu community centre (6 Destiny members have since been charged with assault).

I suggest readers look up David Koresh and the Branch Dravidian movement and the Waco siege.

Good to know NZDF is taking the possibility of internal strife into consideration. Never mind how they are characterising the protagonists, let’s just hope they never need to put such skills into practice.

Well said David. I despair of the mealy-mouthed (whatever that means) bending over backwards, politically correct racism of so many New Zealanders. (Go Brian Tamaki.)

More realistic would be some huge maori demonstration ( as against Seymour's Treaty Bill). The problem would be realistic assessment of the number of maori police and military who would not align.)

Imagine if it were Talmudic Jews portrayed as the threat. Heads would be rolling and we’d never hear the end of outrage. It would be an international incident.

Oh David, and the other commentators.
The NZ DF, plan and execute a training exercise across the South Island, that includes a 'town', used for the purposes of encirclement, penetration plus - and some "lovely" ladies happen to to find out and vis social media and other media forms 'express outrage/horror' etc, that they should do such a thing.
At this point I wonder if they 'attended' the Jacinda Ardern Training School for learning how to capitalize on mis-information & di- information to ' spread false narrative'.
Which if you look at the comments and article, that it just exactly what happened.
The NZ Army - Burnham Camp, have in the past 'executed' similar military operations, as part of Combined Troop & Logistic training and neary a word was made in any media outlet in NZ.
Do I (?), on the basis of stated article and other comments, get all 'upset' when the NZ Army mobilize from Linton Camp, Palmerston North, drive from said camp, down Botanical road to exit the City, "for God knows what reason", at that point do I ring Judith Collins, Min. of Defense, Wgton to ensure "that no lives will be lost"??
Does anyone know D J Trump's phone number, might have to ring him to get help with our "home bred" anarchists.
Yup, can picture the US Navy, Pacific Fleet off the coast between Pourerere and Porangahau, Yup great fishing outside the DOC Marine Reserve.

Is Ellen supporting assault? As a conservative I abhor those who break laws, and those who support law breakers.

While using Christian terminology and texts , the group's claim about Karesh's divinity as the Lamb of God in Revelations and the violent end-times scenario set them very far apart from traditional Christian denominations in being cult like and delusional.
I think some home grown NZ very deviant religious groups historically may have built up collections of armaments but it is fantasy such things are an imminent threat . Gangs with weapon collections would be more realistic, surely.
