DTNZ: Luxon invited to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has been invited to take part in a new US-led initiative on Gaza, with President Donald Trump proposing the creation of a “board of peace” as Washington looks to move beyond the current ceasefire.

A draft charter for the body, which would be chaired by Trump, has been circulated to a select group of world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Argentine President Javier Milei, according to reporting by Bloomberg. The total number of countries approached has not been disclosed.

A spokesperson for Luxon said the prime minister welcomed the start of what has been described as the next phase of the Gaza peace process and confirmed he had received an invitation to join the board, which he would consider carefully.

Under the proposed framework, participating countries would be represented directly by their heads of government and appointed for a term of up to three years. Bloomberg reported that any country seeking to remain on the board beyond that period would be required to make a financial contribution of US$1 billion to support its work.
