Welcome to 2026!
Have you made your New Years resolutions, made plans and set goals for 2026?
Well done if you have.
With our parliament adjourning on December 17th and our pollies all rushing off to their homes or holiday houses for the Christmas break, New Zealand, at present, exists in a political vacuum and will do until the pollies return on Tuesday, January 27th 2026.
Sure, they have a rotating schedule of a few government members available for urgent issues or major incidents such as civil defence, we are not quite rudderless but there is no-one actually manning the bridge!
I would like to think they will have taken some time between their helpings of ham, turkey and lashings of pavlova and strawberries, that was probably washed down with some of our finest Chardy, Sav Blanc or even some top notch bubbles, to give some serious thought to where we are as a country, where they have taken us and to where we might end up if 2026 staggers on and they dish us up with another year of more of the same!
Regrettably I do not think they have!
What will make a difference to the political year in 2026 as it is an ELECTION YEAR!
In a democracy we, as individuals, should have an equal voice. What politicians, government mandarins, the judiciary and academia fail to recognise is that they are not here to dictate to us. Because we are not living in a dictatorship. Are we?
Whatever Luxon, Hipkins or Waititi crave, co-governance or Maori Sovereignty, New Zealand is still a democracy. It is an anathema to even suggest our representative democracy must be replaced with an Ethnocracy!
Nowhere in the world has a dual form of government ever succeeded.
So, I’ve made a list, unsurprisingly, of the political kind, of the things I would like to see happen in 2026 –

Nowhere in the world has a dual form of government ever succeeded.
So, I’ve made a list, unsurprisingly, of the political kind, of the things I would like to see happen in 2026 –
- I want to see our government make thorough and exacting assessments in conjunction with bold decisions,
- I want to see our government stop blaming the previous government,
- I want to see our government demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility, especially around borrowing and the disbursement of said borrowings,
- I want to see our government demand and listen to, objectivity and honesty in the Climate Change debate,
- I want to see our government ensure schools are places where students want to attend, where students are equipped with the knowledge and competencies to flourish in the adult world,
- I want to see our government commit to one person, one vote, govern equally for all and tell Jackson, Waititi et al that is not “Racist Disenfanchisement”,
- I want to see our judiciary ensure the punishment fits the crime and the leniency afforded by Home Detention is minimalized,I want to see our judiciary keep the “The Law of the Land” to the forefront of their minds, not the Treaty of Waitangi, not Te Ao Maori and not tikanga,
- I want to see the apathetic and those sympathetic to Maori sovereignty aspirations wake up and comprehend exactly what they are supporting,
- I want to see majority rule, the corner stone of democracy, restored to its proper place,
- I want to see our country agree the treaty is an important historical document, BUT IT IS NOT OUR CONSTITUTION.
Firstly, I would like to see the Maori Party and all their decolonisation and sovereignty zealots, just for once, acknowledge the myriads of benefits of colonisation!
Do you think for one moment they would ask themselves, where would the Maori race be today if not for colonisation?
Do you think for one moment they would ask themselves if Maori have benefitted from colonisation structures such as Health, Education, Housing, Law and Order etc?
Do you think for one moment they would acknowledge they were a grouping of lawless tribes where “tribal might is right” was the only law! Slavery, cannibalism and infanticide were the customary outcomes of tribal wars.
There was no Maori nirvana in Aotearoa, there was no Aotearoa!
Their myopic vision of Maori Sovereignty by 2040 will eventually be their undoing and greed will bring about their ruination but regrettably, at great cost both financially and socially to New Zealand!
Lastly, for my biggest aspiration, I want to see our MSM held to account for their unmitigated lack of integrity and the deliberate distortion of news. Utterly indefensible!
The publics distrust stems from the inception of the PIJF and continues today with the astonishingly biased reporting and negative editorializing on the new government.
Many media executives eagerly accepted substantial payments for actively promoting the patently false principle that the treaty is a Partnership.
Is the MSM’s antipathy towards our democratically elected government so deep-seated they would rather support those who are working to bring about the demise of our democracy in favour of tribal rule? Is it so ingrained they are unable to see the consequences of their bias?
True journalism is now a thing of the past, a lost competency; Opinions are what we are fed, opinions are what we are expected to believe!
It was abundantly clear that the PIJF payments, implemented by Ardern’s Labour in 2021, to MSM would be recognized as a payment for sympathetic and prescribed coverage.
Quite simply, it undermined our democratic system. Or to put it more bluntly, the MSM crapped in their own nest! More inexplicably, they continue to do so!
It is dumbfounding how out of step the MSM are with the mood of the country.
News doesn’t have “two sides”. It just is what it is, but unfortunately these days news is reported fashioned on the biases of the reporters and editors etc.
So, who is charged with holding to account this collective shower of pedestal perchers?
Why us, Joe and Joanne Public! We hold the power! If we don’t read, they don’t sell!
Democratic and fact-based journalism enabled by the internet is increasingly challenging mainstream news media in terms of both size and influence. The more we choose to use it over newspapers and TV, the speedier the demise of the MSM!
It’s over to us. Do you want to be fed distorted news, ½ truths and watch editorializing by TV reporters that have the temerity to call themselves “Political Editors”?
Just as it is over to us to hold politicians feet to the fire.
We don’t have the luxury of saying ” She’ll be right” anymore.
Our country is drowning in a sea of indolence and apathy that is allowing the Maori sovereignty movement to gain a stronger foothold.
Why are we allowing democracy and equality to sink below the waves of indolence and apathy?
Where are the New Zealanders standing up for a way of life of which we are all beneficiaries? Where are the New Zealanders demanding we will not be divided and differentiated by race? Where are the New Zealanders standing up for democracy?
Are we still that frightened of the RASCIST tag?
I see no shortage of protestors holding their Tino rangatiratanga flags and their Toitū te Tiriti placards. Actually, I offer a nod of respect to them. At least they are prepared to stand up for their cause.
Successive governments are of the notion that there are more votes to be gained in appeasing Maori activism than actually telling the truth and pushing back on the myths and fallacies that are espoused as truths.
The judiciary, academia, the educators continue to push their false narrative of decolonisation. Maybe they do simply believe Maori in New Zealand are a race that has been abused, downtrodden and dispossessed of their lands and their culture?
For too long New Zealand’s democracy has produced governments that ignore the will of the people, ignore the majority in matters of importance.
A weak government and apathetic public are taking us towards an unworkable mishmash of democracy and ethnocracy.
National, in particular, have to wake up and stand up! Stand up more strongly for democracy and equal rights for all.

Three Cheers for you, Pee Kay !!
Right on the button PK. But how do we get the under 40 s to understand.? Even take an interest.
"Where are the New Zealanders standing up for democracy?"...well they are here for starters, they are also liberally sprinkled over social media and non-MSM media. The problem is we don't occupy influential positions so are pretty much powerless(apart from our voting power).
This election year we sorely need influential people to step up. There are only so many emails, letters and petitions we can sign and only so many(doomed by Luxon) bills we can support.
An excellent article. We can make some assumptions about a referendum on democracy - and why National/Luxon ( and perhaps NZF) are avoiding this.
1.Those against a referendum fear it may be supported by NZers at this time.
2. Support would meet with strong Maori disapproval - even violence..
3. However, in another 5 years, the outcome could be different - ethnocracy may be favoured largely due to the indoctrination of young generations through education over recent decades.
4. Current politicians prefer to avoid the issue and hope it would be handled by their successors.
5. The long embedded apathy of NZers makes
this issue hard to forecast at any time.
