JC: Global Shift to the Right

Here in New Zealand, it’s ACT and NZ First who are set to benefit.

The world wide move to the right seems loosely based on the strategies of Donald Trump and his America First policy which is nationalistic in nature. While the policy might appear to be primarily domestic, it does extend to the international stage. The strategies centre largely on immigration, security and being self-supporting and Trump’s immigration policies have so far been largely successful having pretty much closed off the southern border. So far more than 600,000 illegal immigrants have been detained and deported.

Trump’s strategy is to protect America and ensure the protection of its allies and maintain America’s dominance as the leading global power ahead of Russia and China. This is what the Greenland deal, at its most basic, was about: Trump posturing to get what he saw as necessary - a tightening up of security in the Arctic region and a change in how NATO operates.

Trump’s methods are in sharp contrast to many other leaders more aptly known as ‘career politicians’. Most of them have never run much other than a bath in their lives. Take for example Starmer - pathetically weak. von der Leyen a fearsome dictator.

The UK is a shambles. Starmer's chancellor has an economic vocabulary that stretches to one word – tax, and an energy minister with zero common sense who promotes net zero with the enthusiasm of a five-year-old at a birthday party. Starmer campaigned on a promise to lower energy bills by £300. Instead, he's managed to raise them by the same amount and then some.

In another "unusual" move, Starmer wants to give the Chagos Islands, which house a strategic American military base, to Mauritius, a friend of China, and pay Mauritius billions a year for the privilege in an attempt to get the UK more aligned to the EU through private meetings and back-door deals which effectively ignore democracy and the will of parliament.

The beneficiary of the Starmer driven chaos is Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party. Operating in a Trumpian like manner, he wants to restore a sense of patriotism to the UK while stopping illegal immigration. His rise in the polls is largely due to voter disenchantment with both the Tories and Labour. Like Trump, Farage has a love/hate relationship with the people.

An interesting development though. Current member of parliament Rupert Lowe, who left the Conservatives to sit as an independent, has recently launched his own party which he has named Restore Britain. The party attracted two million views on social media almost immediately.

Lowe has had a public falling out with Farage leading to the launch of his own party and it means there are now three parties on the right chasing votes. Lowe may resonate better with the public than Farage who was the leading light behind Brexit and that will make the political landscape very interesting. The failures of the Conservatives under Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to fully implement the benefits of independence has brought them to where they are today.

And then there's the EU and Ursula von der Leyen, who is exterminating the sovereignty and rights of member countries. She issues edicts telling leaders what has been decided and what fines will be imposed if orders are not followed. von der Leyen wants a United States of Europe, with her and her cabal of unelected elites in power.

Leading the EU leaders' fight back charge is Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who's having none of von der Leyen’s power grab. She's made it clear that these edicts will not be complied with unless they are in Italy’s interests. So now we have a founding member of the EU, the third largest economy in the EU, openly opposing the undemocratic structure von der Leyen is trying to impose.

This was always going to be the problem once the falsehood of a common market was exposed to reveal the real aim of creating a political powerhouse. This is why, back in 1962, Field Marshal Montgomery was totally against Britain joining what would later become the European Union. He said “The intention is more than a common market – it is political unity. I stand for the British Commonwealth with the Queen at its head.” He said his experience, gained over years of association with NATO, taught him there is no true unity in Western Europe. Too many of the nations are allies only in name: there is no intense (overall) nationalism and no nation is prepared to make any sacrifice of sovereignty for the good of all. How true his words have proved to be.

Meloni has just echoed them: Italy will put its sovereignty and self-interests first. Italy will not play Happy Families. A United States of Europe is exactly what Hitler had in mind. He uttered those very words. It has taken someone with guts, in this case Giorgia Meloni, to expose von der Leyen’s strategic path to power. It will be interesting to see if any other right-wing member countries join in. Countries never willingly give up their sovereignty and their national objectives.

In Australia another minority party is starting to benefit from this turn: One Nation, led by firebrand Pauline Hanson is currently giving the right-leaning coalition of Liberal/National parties a run for their money in the popularity stakes. As in the UK, people are looking for something different from the two main parties and they don’t want the left.

Here in New Zealand, it’s ACT and NZ First who are set to benefit from a ditching of the left and a National Party that has underperformed by not delivering on campaign promises. NZ First and ACT are both prepared to take a stronger stance on race issues than National. This is damaging National's polling and will do so even more at the ballot box in November. Winston Peters is campaigning on a referendum to abolish the Māori seats. ACT’s deputy leader Brooke van Velden has gone a step further, saying: “Why bother with a referendum, just legislate.”

Hear! Hear!

Globally, the left are showing themselves to be either incompetents or dictators running on ideologies the majority of their populations disagree with. This plays into the hands of the political right, but the left are wedded to their ideological stupidity and appear blind to the consequences. They ignore the polls and put their faith in a declining left-wing media to peddle their lies and propaganda. It’s not working. Weak leadership is easily spotted (I’m speaking to you Mr Luxon) and will not be rewarded at election time.

Here's my prediction: ACT and NZ First will do better than the polls are suggesting. They appeal to voters who want to see true equality in this country and not the circus we have had to put up with for far too long. The farce surrounding the inequality of Māori needs to be extinguished and most normal-thinking Māori agree. The continual pandering to the Māori elite is a stain on the country and is hurting it economically.

If Luxon continues to choose not to get on board with public opinion, November 7 might well be a date he will rue when the results come out.
