Miliband faces a choice of blackouts or missing Net Zero targets
Ed Miliband has been warned he will have to “choose between” imposing power blackouts or missing his target to hit net-zero electricity supplies by 2030. Industry figures say there is now such a backlog of routine maintenance on the electricity network that it will be impossible to maintain the grid’s resilience while also upgrading it to handle new wind and solar farms.
Vauxhall to bring back diesel vehicles
Stellantis, the car giant behind brands including Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep and Peugeot, is quietly bringing diesel cars back to Europe as it steps away from its previous all-out push towards electric vehicles. The shift comes as electric car sales have failed to live up to expectations across several major markets throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
Miliband undermines Labour’s promise to cut bills by £150
Rachel Reeves’s promise to deliver a £150 reduction in household energy bills is being undercut by Ed Miliband’s net zero grid upgrades. Cornwall Insight have forecast that bills will fall by just £117.
Jenrick: cheap energy is the precondition for growth
Robert Jenrick, in his first major speech as Reform’s Treasury spokesperson, said that a “precondition for turning our economy around is the understanding that cheap energy is the driver of prosperity." Spain leans on gas to stabilise grid
Gas demand for power generation spiked last year in Spain as utilities boosted gas-powered output following the worst blackout in Europe’s modern history. Spain’s demand for transported natural gas rose by 7.4%.
Rubio: the West needs to stop appeasing the “climate cult”
Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, told the Munich Secrurity Conference that Net Zero is weakening the West. He said: “To appease a climate cult, we have imposed energy policies on ourselves that are impoverishing our people, even as our competitors exploit oil and coal and natural gas and anything else – not just to power their economies, but to use as leverage against our own.”

Trump slams Miliband’s Net Zero deal with California
Donald Trump has attacked Ed Miliband for striking an “inappropriate” green energy deal with one of his political opponents, warning “if they did to the UK what he did to California, this will not be a successful venture”.
