Conveniently ignored as this does not suit the narrative of oppression. In any case, the final guarantee of tribal / minority rule is assent or veto over all legislation - this is coming closer.
But do they identify primarily as 'Maori' or as 'NZers'? That is what matters!

56 years ago, when my wife and I married, one of us happened to be Maori, neither of us cared. Sadly that would no longer be the case.
Because, Chuck, it will tell us whether they function primarily for the benefit of us all or only for the benefit of one ethnic group.
Barend, I know David and Nicole well. That is the leader and the deputy leader of the ACT party. I say they function for the benefit of all of us. David says there are 3 Maori MPs in ACT and not 3 part Maori MPs, I suggest you ask them how they identify next time you see them.
You're quite right, Chuck. But people use these terms to convey different meanings. That's not how it ought to be, but it is.
With regard to both Barend and Chuck, why is it important to identify as 'maori' if other proportions of one's genetic makeup are in fact greater than the 'maori' portion? Why not identify as Dutch, Greek or Scots etc., even if one claims 1/2, 1/4 or less from one's respective ancestry? An old argument, yes, but still relevant and completely glossed over in NZ where one is either part-maori (or identifying as 'maori'), but everyone else can get stuffed. It has always been a dollop of hypocritical horse manure and, to paraphrase Barend: "that's not how it should be, but it is" and no wonder the rest of us are pissed off.
The entire absurd racial situation in NZ should not exist - but it does. Why? Because it has never been challenged - neither by governments, nor by the people. Ever increasing appeasement has resulted - look at the damage. This will never be corrected by negotiation - too far advanced now . Only civil conflict could do this at a future point - and perhaps when the new migrant population of NZ reaches critical numbers.
Infiltrating a country's legislative body with a view to control is the first step for Critical Race Theory (CRT) - the other 5 priorities flow from this ( public service, judiciary, academia, police, media). He Puapua foresees a structure where the final chamber to approve or veto laws is Maori ( Iwi and Hapu). So, very important.
is not what their ethnic makeup is but the values they subscribe to. Many or the activists and supporters of the modern Māori doctrine have zero percent Māori blood.
