A family member has worked in local government. In their view, Michael Laws has it exactly right. No amount of amalgamation will make things better. He proposes a pathway forward: the Minister of Local Government, along with all councils, should take note.
I do hope that large numbers of voters and ratepayers have seen this piece.
You said it Michael. Taken me a while to realise LG has been in no way democratic for 2 decades. Salaried bureaucrats just do what they please - a little irritated by the presence of superfluous bodies voted in by the locals.
