Ian Bradford: Net Zero impossible since CO2 does not control the climate

The Radical net zero plan crafted by the United Nations and endorsed by such entities as the World Economic Forum, presses nations to abdicate reliance on fossil fuels, nuclear energy, and even hydroelectric dams in favour of so called “green energy” that is not that green and does not generate and transmit reliable, affordable energy. UN chairman Antonio Guterres and UN climate chief Christiana Figueres crafted a plan that granted absolute dictatorial power to national governments to act under UN mandates to destroy the fossil fuel, livestock and other industries. Their collectivist plans were said to be based on claims that relatively minor increases in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere would submerge the Statue of Liberty, raise sea levels to kill or displace millions, and burn up land long devoted to agriculture.

Ian Bradford: Climate and Weather Are Not the Same - and thinning clouds cause the warming.

A number of weather events have been happening lately that have been associated with climate change by the climate alarmists. Weather events do not in general, signify climate change.

Weather is real and observed as well as being chaotic and non linear. There are no regular patterns with weather. Weather is part of our physical world, climate is not. You can look out your window and see weather. You cannot see climate by looking out your window. Climate is an abstract concept. That means it exists in thought or as an idea, but does not have a physical existence. We know most climate predictions are made using a computer. So clearly there is no physical existence. In fact, it is likely no one living at present will notice any climate change. When scientists talk about global warming they are talking about 1.1 deg C since the Industrial Revolution in 1850. We don’t know whether it is true or not, but the alarmists say most of the warming has occurred in recent years. So to get around this let’s take 80 years from year 1900. 80 Years is an average life span. So for someone who lived from 1900 to 1980 the temperature increase was just 0.5 Deg C. Given a lifespan of about 80 years can anybody detect a rise of 0.5 deg C over their life? No of course they can’t.

Carbon dioxide occurs naturally in the atmosphere and plays a crucial role in the life processes of the planet. Airlines have trees to offset their CO2 Greenhouse Gas emissions. That’s recognised and acceptable. More than that it is encouraged and subsidised.

Farmers have grasses to offset their CH4 (methane) Greenhouse Gas emissions. That’s not recognised and it’s not acceptable. More than that, they are heavily criticised and are threatened with severe penalties.

Humans emit CO2 Greenhouse Gas. We are not penalised because we are part of a closed, natural cycle where we eat greens that are grown by photosynthesis that uses CO2. That’s IPCC policy.

Proxies are physical characteristics that give an indication of such things as temperature and amount of CO_2. For example, if tree rings are close together, it signals slow growth and therefore low temperatures.

A recent study (by Andrew Montfort of the Global Warming Policy Foundation) addressing the Net Zero policies of the United Kingdom government has calculated that heat pumps, which Climate ‘activists’ advocate to replace home heating (in that nation, and in Canada), do none of the things that their proponents claim.   Heat pumps are neither more efficient than gas boilers, nor cheaper, and do a very expensive job of reducing carbon dioxide, ‘CO2’, emissions.  Heat pumps eliminate those emissions at a cost of over £300 – ~CAD$400 – per tonne of CO2, which far exceeds the estimated cost of those emissions to global Gross Domestic Product.  In summary, heat pumps are the antithesis of a true solution to a questionable ‘problem’.
