Point of Order: Buzz from the Beehive - 31/8/23

$110.783m of highway spending comes from the govt – payments to the news media will come from corporate giants

Transport Minister David Parker today explained what is happening to $110,783,000 of the government’s $419 million Transport Resilience Fund.

Work will start this year on the first 94 projects under a fund dedicated for early preventative works to protect our state highway network from future severe weather disruption, Parker said.

Heather du Plessis-Allan: National's transport policy is the best of the election campaign

National’s transport policy is my favourite policy of this election campaign so far.

Because we are taking the mickey with the state of our roads, and we need to get smart about this fast.

We have a $210 billion dollar infrastructure deficit in this country, and if we want to keep our young people here, we need to get back to looking and feeling like a first world country, and no first world country would put up with the state of our infrastructure.

You shouldn’t hit two lane roads only 1.5 hours out of our biggest cities.

Heather du Plessis-Allan: Puhoi to Warkworth highway opens

Well, very good news today that the Puhoi to Warkworth highway has finally officially been opened.

Only about a year and a half late, but we’ll take what we can get.

You can’t drive on it yet — you have to wait until early next week, and they won’t tell us exactly when because it’ll cause disruptions with everyone flocking to use the road all at once.

That is how much we love a new road in this country.

Point of Order: Buzz from the Beehive - 15/6/23

How the Hipkins Govt is buttering up farmers and growers – but they haven’t forgotten funding to empower women and girls

More announcements have gushed from the busy bees in the Beehive in the past 24 hours or so, this time enhancing the information they are sharing with a good dollop of dollar signs to show how our taxes are being spent.

Point of Order: More Māori words make it into the OED...

....and polytech boss (with rules on words like “students”) is promoting the use of others

New Zealand Education Minister Jan Tinetti is hosting the inaugural Conference of Pacific Education Ministers for three days from today, welcoming Education Ministers and senior officials from 18 Pacific Island countries and territories, and from Australia.

Here’s hoping they have brought translators with them – or packed the latest edition of the OED. The publishers of the Oxford English Dictionary last week announced the OED has deepened its coverage of New Zealand English by adding 47 new entries.
