Green MP Tamatha Paul has just given New Zealand a clear view into the dystopian underbelly of the far-left. In a move that would make even the most hardened radical blush, Paul has chosen to use her public platform, not to support her constituents, not to advocate for safety in our streets, but to fundraise for People Against Prisons Aotearoa (PAPA), an extremist group openly calling for the abolition of both police and prisons.

The Act Party ends the year on 9.6% in an average of the last public polls, a moderate gain on its 2023 election result of 8.64% but still a strong result considering the poor track record of minor parties in MMP, and a testimony to the high profile enjoyed by its leader David Seymour and his Treaty Principles Bill.

Todd Stephenson: Free speech goes both ways


Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark recently found himself in a media furore as he asserted his right to use colourful racial terms. Ratepayers might regret the distraction from local concerns, but part of my job in Parliament is to consider speech issues in a serious way.

And I’ve come to a conclusion. Free speech is indeed under threat in New Zealand.
