Andrew Dickens: This weekend showed the Greens are fast becoming unelectable

So two big video interviews over the weekend.

Firstly, Tucker Carlson interviewed Vladimir Putin.

Tucker said it was because no-one but him had bothered to ask which is BS. There's always people in the media claiming they're the only people holding power to account.

My feel is that Putin knew Tucker was desperate for the scoop following his embarrassing downfall at Fox, so obliged him as a useful idiot.

But that's not to denigrate the appearance. It was great to watch and listen to Putin. Know your enemy, they say, but you can't if no-one lets you hear them.

The interview was reported 2 ways. Either Putin keen for World War 3 or Putin keen to negotiate for peace.

He alluded to both things but what I took as more chilling was his half hour history lesson on the Russian/Ukraine situation. It went back centuries.

It showed his depth of feeling. Māori would understand, having such long held historical grievance. It's a depth that means he's not pulling out or pulling back. In fact, his keenness for peace negotiation only requires USA to stop funding Ukraine. He's playing a long game. This conflict will only stop when Putin has gone which is no time soon.

So the other interview was Jack Tame's conversation with Chloe Swarbrick.

It was a shocker.

Chloe Swarbrick apologises for 'from the river to the sea' chant, Menendez-March declines to comment

Her refusal to understand how her Palestinian chants had been received was remarkable. This after mediation by the Human Rights Commission. This after Jewish members of her electorate had spoken with her.

The left are famous opponents of hate speech, but to understand if speech is offensive you need to have the empathy to understand how the offence has been taken.

Chloe seemed unable to comprehend the fear Jewish people have of that chant. She was unable to own any blame.

The rest of the interview made me feel that the fresh and intelligent woman who entered parliament has been replaced by a hard line radical informed only by her own echo chamber.

The Greens are in deep trouble. The Ghahraman resignation and forthcoming trial. James Shaw, the one calming influence, the man billed as a relationship builder, gone. The prospect of Davidson and Swarbrick ruling a radical socialist party.

The damage is already evident in the polls this weekend with the Greens dropping 4.8 per cent to sit at 9 per cent.

They're fast becoming unelectable. A socialist party that pays lip service to the environment and has forgotten about why they came into being in the first place.

Excellent news - unelectable ( as should be the case).

Interesting observations on both interviews. I watched the highlights of the Putin interview and couldn't decide if Tucker Carlson was more of a Lord Haw-Haw character or a patsy. I suspect a bit of both and neither will end well for him. Putin is clearly quite mad.
As for Swarbrick, her interview was alarming. Not only did she come across as a hard-core radical but she only spoke text book nonsense. There was no real insight, no empathy and no warmth. There were certainly no solutions from her apart from tearing down the current system. Anarchy is hardly a majority vote winner.
I'd be very surprised if the Greens get back into Parliament in 2026. Let alone usher Chloe in as leader of the Opposition.

I quite like the Free Speech Union stance in that Chloe is within her rights to chant the chant at the moment, and her statement that instead of offence just harden up alas points out the hypocrisy of her promoting the implementation of Labour's hate speech laws. If hate speech is to become subjective (as the Jewish school in her electorate said, 'it offends us, makes us feel unsafe and we see it as a call to genocide of Jews') and her answer is I have a right to say it, suck it up - where would that leave her if the 'hate speech law' she wants implemented, based on offending others was actually part of law? A stunning display of immaturity, inflexibility, and ego.

The greens were not the greens, then Shaw left and they are full out weird red. They are now a protest group only.

I refer to the comment in this article (quote) -" In fact, his keenness for peace negotiation only requires USA to stop funding Ukraine. He's playing a long game. This conflict will only stop when Putin has gone which is no time soon'. (unquote).

It shows the naivety of the Author of this article - Putin may -
- "suggest he wants peace"
- and seek "a condition that the US stops funding Ukraine"

- the sad reality is - that once the funds cease, the purchasing and supply of weapons cease to Ukraine, watch the Russian Army cross a border in strength and " flatten Ukraine".

Putin also knows, that both the NATO Alliance & the USofA will be powerless to stop him - it would mean a wider European conflict, that NATO Allies, at the present time, can not afford to get involved. An example is the UK with major 'manpower' shortages in all Military domains. Ditto Germany and with both Holland and Poland in Freefall over recent elections, I do not think either have the mentality, at present, to put their army into fighting form.

As for France, sadly currently led by "a weak kneed individual", who would take "a knee in the face of Russian Military aggression".

There is documented proof that Master Putin wants to -
- seek revenge upon Ukraine, a sentiment that goes back to Ukraine People siding with the Germans to fight Russia during WW2
- re-establish the former USSR, which means subjugating the People of those former Countries back under Russian control & dominance.

And he has also has the Iosef Stalin attitude, he does not like nor trust the USofA.

Sadly anyone reading this will no doubt scratch their heads, utter something like " what the ..", to those please understand, that there is documented proof to the above statements and books written by those who have studied Putin from his time as a KGB agent in Germany to his time in St Petersburg, then his Political development via Yeltsin to becoming the President.

Information that one would not read in the NZ Herald, Post, Sunday Star Times, Otago Daily Time, or be mention by Jack Tame.

Oh and Putin is going nowhere at present, unless he is physically removed, but he has the FSB (Russian Intelligence Service/former KGB) "at his back" an association of long standing.

Valid Point.

You appear to be a captive of the West’s propaganda.
If you had watched the interview in its entirety you would realised how poisoned the West is with its own propaganda.
Russia is led by a very intelligent leader compared to our idiots.
