Ele Ludemann: Bias replaces balance

Day after day the media has stories focusing on problems with the taxpayer funded school lunches.

Some of the problems are real and need to be solved.

Some show some children are fussy and fussy children aren’t hungry.

Some ought to show that some schools, and their pupils are happy with what they get.

But they don’t.

For what looks like political bias, the media appears not to concern itself with balance.

A friend was playing golf with the head of a boys’ school last week. He said the lunch programme was working well, his boys likes what they got and there was no waste because if there were any leftovers some of the pupils went back for seconds.

This can’t be the only school in the country that isn’t experiencing problems but that doesn’t suit what appears to be anti-government bias that has replaced balance.

Why am I paying tax for school lunches?
It's just another prop up to the welfare system which is already bloated with a generation of sponges.
Child poverty nonsense. It's called irresponsible parenting.
This country needs to stop using weasel words to hide the real problems.
We have become a weak willed, lazy, irresponsible and wasteful society of no hopers more concerned with feelings than facts.
We are Pathetic.
We rely on foreign workers to prop this country up because Kiwis are too tired to get out of bed. And those foreign workers pay exorbitant rents to those employers for the most basic of facilities.
I'm so ashamed how this country has degenerated I'm reluctant to confess what passport I hold.
School lunches will not help - It will only serve to encourage more reliance upon the state and erode what little incentives remain to those who might want to enrich their own human capital.

Exactly, Elle . School lunches is based on ideology not reality
They should never have been introduced. They are a terrible distraction from the main issue we should be addressing eg that 75% 0f low decile students couldn't pass NCEA numeracy.
We have the longest tail of underachievement in the developed world not because of starving children because of an evil ideology that is more interested in promoting socialism than academic achievement.
School lunches dominate in the corrupt media instead of the crucial issues that are really destroying our schooling and children's future.
If you can't feed your children -go to WINZ and sort it out . Don't waste school time with having to feed your own children.
