Those who don’t learn from their mistakes are bound to repeat them:
Labour’s Finance Spokesperson Barbara Edmonds has opened the door to a higher inflation target, meaning a Labour Government would tolerate higher costs for Kiwis.
“Labour’s only policy on inflation seems to be encouraging more of it,” says National’s Finance Spokesperson Nicola Willis.
“Barbara Edmonds’ support for a higher inflation target is bizarre, particularly at a time when New Zealanders are still recovering from the sky-high inflation Labour caused last time.
“Put simply, a higher inflation target means higher prices for Kiwis.
“This is on top of Labour’s commitment to introduce new taxes on Kiwis’ homes, businesses and retirement savings.”
Is this a sign of a very short memory or failure to learn?
The economic mire from which the country is struggling was caused by Labour’s reckless spending which contributed to inflation more than twice as high as the band in which the Reserve Bank is supposed to stay.
If the party’s Finance spokesperson doesn’t understand this, she would make a very dangerous Finance Minister.
If this becomes Labour’s policy it will be a very good weapon for National and its coalition partners who will be able to say New Zealand cannot afford to put Labour back in government.

Isn't it interesting that everyone (including the auditor general) knows about the labour Party's "reckless spending", but noone knows, and noone wants to find out, who received the Clark advised ardern hierarchy's $74.4b covid spend up.
David Farrar has even taken to censoring my posts on kiwiblog. I'm only asking where our covid money went, enquiring why the ardernesque Willis isn't breaking up the banking and supermarket cartels, and asking for a competent minister to be put in charge of a covid inquiry which mysteriously didn't summons the "most expensive covid response in the world" architects.
Come on Mr Luxon, I was excited to have a clever and honest pm for a change.
Pls don't make me drop the "and honest"
Hi balanced, really? David Farrar censoring your posts? I find your posts to be excellent and enjoy your contributions and points of view.
You ask a very fair question. However, go and have a look at the executive summary of useless Robertsons 2021 and 2022 budgets. That pretty much tells you where a large chunk of monies went. All the best.
Thx anon.
Grants budget documents don't include/explain:
- the $600,000 tax money paid to peeni henares wife's "consulting" company
- the tax money given to nanaia mahutas relatives' "consulting" companies,
- why $6m was given to an international blue chip company to change their boiler
- where the $10 million paid to nanaia mahutas relative, the maori king, ended up
- who owned the consulting companies paid hundreds of millions to work on white elephant labour Party projects.
- why the clark and Bloomfield advised ardern hierarchy spent $ 139 million and 383.3 million in 2021 and 2022 on a vaccine medsafe told them was neither safer nor effective?
- how Ardern has taken a 2 year high life holiday in the US whilst working in an unpaid university position.
My questions and comments are obviously making someone uncomfortable.
