Nvidia boss warns Miliband over UK energy policy


Britain will need natural gas to power new giant computing hubs for artificial intelligence, the boss of Nvidia said, warning that Britain’s high electricity price remained a “challenge”. During an interview with the BBC, Labour’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury said in response that the UK government plans to to continue with its push for renewables.

A new More in Common report (funded by Octopus) finds high energy bills remain the driving force behind Britain’s cost-of-living crisis and reshaping politics. Britons are most likely to view the UK government as most responsible for our high household energy bills - three quarters (75 per cent) say the government is either very or somewhat responsible. Labour has retained just 57% of its 2024 voters among those most worried, underlining how soaring bills are eroding living standards and fuelling voter disillusionment.

New report calls for deregulation of UK nuclear

Cornwall Insight: bills to rise next April due to Net Zero

Britain’s dash to Net Zero will fuel a £100 rise in household energy bills from next April, according to leading forecasters. The wholesale price of gas is forecast to fall next spring, but Net Zero costs mean bill are predicted to increase.

GMB union says UK transition plan for oil and gas workers is “doomed to fail”

Trade union GMB have called on the government to reassess its policies that have accelerated the decline in the North Sea oil and gas industry and deindustrialised the UK. They say attempts to impose an energy transition on oil and gas workers is “doomed to fail”. Seperate analysis has found that Miliband’s plans to shut down the North Sea will cost the Treasury £10 billion.

UK urged to do more to protect undersea cables

Britain has been “too timid” in defending its undersea cables from attacks that could cause “catastrophic disruption” to the financial and communications systems Britons rely on, MPs and peers have warned.

OPEC calls out IEA hypocrisy on oil and gas


As the IEA’s latest report calls for more investment in oil, OPEC says “the IEA has not referenced how its own advocacy of its Net Zero Emissions Scenario or its own prognosis of peak oil demand have discouraged investments and contributed to uncertainty about long-term oil demand”.

Ford to cut 1000 jobs in Germany

Ford is set to cut 1,000 jobs at its iconic Cologne factory due to disappointing demand for two of its EV models. Forecasts overshot the public’s appetite for electric vehicles and now people are losing their jobs.
