DTNZ: US-Iran deal ‘now complete’ – Trump

Mediator Pakistan says the sides will sign the agreement on Friday in Switzerland.

US President Donald Trump has announced that the peace deal with Iran is “now complete,” signaling the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the negotiations, said that both sides “have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

Sharif added that the agreement would be formally signed on Friday in Switzerland.

The US and Iran previously said that a memorandum of understanding had been largely finalized. According to Tehran, the document would focus on ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran’s nuclear program would be addressed in separate negotiations within 60 days of its signing.

Trump had several heated phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent weeks, during which he demanded that Israel stop its airstrikes in Lebanon. Iran had previously threatened to suspend the talks unless the Israeli campaign came to an end.

No regime change. No forfeiting of nuclear materials. Billions of USD to be paid to Iran in reparations. All from the man who bankrupted a casino.

And Iran has learnt that the West is too weak to defend its own interests. Once Trump is gone the straits will have a tollbooth in operation.

CXH, you seem to be giving Trump credit for there being no tollbooth on the Strait for the remainder of his presidency. I don’t seem to recall even the idea of one until Trump started this disastrous war, so, if it comes to pass when he’s gone it will look like it's his legacy.

This isn't a "Peace deal". It's just Donald Trump desperate to announce a victory before the mid-terms; ANY victory. It's not a peace deal because it's only a Memorandum of Agreement. An agreed agenda for what the parties propose talking about in the next six months. The only deal reached so far is to extend the existing deal about the cease-fire for another six weeks. But who honestly thinks it will all come together in six weeks. It took ten weeks just to agree the shape the negotiating table with the North Vietnamese. And that's with professional diplomats running the show. Not Trump's real-estate investor buddy Steve Witkoff who has no discernible diplomatic credentials. So as it stands, some trigger-happy Hezbullah fighter can derail the whole show by taking a shot at the IDF at any time during the six weeks. Given that Israel has been thrown under a bus by Trump, they have nothing to lose by retaliating in kind. And there goes the cease-fire. And with it the whole peace process. So who holds the cards now Mr Trump? Certainly not you.

There won't be a lasting peace deal with the IRGC simply because you can't negotiate with fanatical terrorists.
Having said that, President Trump is right to get the Strait of Hormuz open for the time being.
The only alternative for the US would have been either to bomb Iran into oblivion or have "boots on the ground". Without boots on the ground, we have a situation whereby the armed Iranian IRGC supporters stand firm. The British did this in WW2 against the Germans.
Another scenario could be the uprising of the 80% anti-regime population(again).
The losers here are not the US but the anti-regime Iranians.

I liked the deal where the strait was already open and people weren’t killed

Janine I hear people say that Trump always chickens out at the negotiating table. Doesn’t it seem to you that this is another case of that? I don’t see any win for America here

Curious to know why Janine thinks Donald Trump has anything to do with opening the Strait of Hormuz. That's entirely within the gift of whoever is running Iran this week. Of course if Trump had not embarked on his war of choice, the Strait would never have been closed by Iran in the first place, so well done Trump. You are now worse off than if you had just stayed at home. What's that line about all the King's horses and all the King's men? Trump will clearly not win the Peace Prize for his non-Peace Deal but he might be nominated for the best actor Oscar when he claims victory and peace in our time. On second thoughts, make that the Golden Rasberry for the worst performance of the year.

I read somewhere that the USA will be paying reparations to Iran as part of the deal. Same regime, strait is as open as it was in January, Iran still has enriched uranium, 150 school kids dead.

I also heard that Trump wrote a book called The Art Of The Deal.

Janine, do you ever have the suspicion that you’ve been conned?

I read that Iran will charge fees for shipping going through the strait.

How on earth is what Trump landed on any better than what Obama negotiated??
