Pee Kay: Is UNDRIP enforceable under the law of a sovereign state? Absolutely

Did we, the voting public, know Key had authorised the trip to New York by Pita Sharples to sign UNDRIP?

Did we heck!

Pita Sharples trip to New York to sign the declaration on behalf of New Zealand was kept secret!

That was not political apathy. That was political deceit!

“New Zealand has always supported the overall aspirations of the declaration, and we already implement most provisions contained within it,” said John Key.

The statement in support of the declaration:
  •  acknowledges that Maori hold a special status as tangata whenua, the indigenous people of New Zealand and have an interest in all policy and legislative matters;
  • affirms New Zealand’s commitment to the common objectives of the declaration and the Treaty of Waitangi; and
  • reaffirms the legal and constitutional frameworks that underpin New Zealand’s legal system, noting that those existing frameworks define the bounds of New Zealand’s engagement with the declaration.
The signing of UNDRIP in 2010 dramatically incentivised activists and this led to the Iwi Forum commissioning the Independent Working Group on Constitutional Transformation to produce a report, subsequently called Matike Mai.

Matike Mai was framed to clarify priorities for Maori self-determination and the pathways, including legislative, towards Maori sovereignty. From Matike Mai transpired He Puapua.

Prof. Charters, co – author of the government funded report, He Puapua, deems NZ sovereignty to be a “myth”…….. but she is working at great speed to establish Maori sovereignty to be enshrined in law as soon as possible. Stating – “Aotearoa New Zealand needs to confront the injustices of our past and the ongoing impacts today. That starts with confronting the myth of sovereignty.”

We are living in revolutionary times. It is a coup, engineered by a small number of tribal elite thanks to successive governments willingness to sacrifice New Zealand democracy for totalitarian tribal rule.

He Puapua is based on lies and deceit and is being implemented without electoral mandate by compliant governments!

Professor Mary-Lou Kearney’s article is an excellent expose of the dangers and liabilities John Keys government signed us up for!

Pee Kay writes he is from a generation where common sense, standards, integrity and honesty are fundamental attributes. This article was first published HERE

I would love to see a credible poll on how many NZers are worried about equality, race issues, and the treaty.

Its clear the current govt dont think this is important to us

"The statement in support of the declaration acknowledges that Maori hold a special status as tangata whenua, the indigenous people of New Zealand and have an interest in all policy and legislative matters..."
Does the declaration also acknowledge that Celts hold a special status as the indigenous people of England and have an interest in all policy and legislative matters?
If not, then the statement is racist. Indigenous people in England are presently being disadvantaged by their own government with recent migrants give preferential treatment, much as the Maoris are here.
It is racism against Europeans in an effort to close the gap with non-Europeans, even if that means taking Europeans down to do it.
We need to understand and address who are driving that.

Again, if you can proudly tell us when and where your ancestors landed in NZ then by definition, you are not indigenous.
Therefore the whole UNDRIP signing is invalid.
Full stop, end of story.

Give me a decent leader who has not been conned by Maori into giving democracy away.

Long term, as the Maori DNA gets increasingly diluted, constitutional control of NZ by "Maori" who have perhaps 1/256 Maori DNA becomes even more ludicrous.

To anon 8.18: in Nat's case, this is a position adopted to avoid taking action in this area. e.g. Bishop has often said no one cares about co-gov. Contradicted by the number of people attending Nat meetings and asking questions about this and related issues.

A treaty is not enforceable itself because it is only an agreement between parties ,
It has to be enforced through legislation.

John Key was - and is - a dishonest man, as is his successor Christopher Luxon. How we need an honest, rational leader. Seymour is the only one I can see.

Agree Ellen. Mr Seymour has his faults but he is honest. Unlike the Teflon Twins of NZ First are proving every time they speak
