Mike's Minute: Is it time we pull out of Paris?
Labels: Climate, Emissions, Mike Hosking, Paris AgreementWe adjusted our climate target, or one of our climate targets last week.
Which in and of itself is part of the whole climate debate malaise. There are so many targets involving Paris, or not involving Paris, or timelines.

Henry Cooke: What next for the Ministry for the Environment?
Labels: Climate impact, Emissions, Henry Cooke, Ministry for the Environment (MfE), Public Service staffing cuts, RMAWhile idly sifting through Treasury’s proactive release of mini-Budget papers, I spotted an interesting line.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the proposals being put forward, the Climate Implications of Policy Assessment (CIPA) team has not been consulted to review these results.”

Owen Jennings: Critical questions
Labels: Climate change, Emissions, Farmers, Owen Jennings, Paris AgreementA number of critically important questions have been raised in recent discussions I have had with farmers about their greenhouse gas emissions. They deserve answers. The mainstream media ignore them preferring to bag the farming community saying they are getting off lightly and are not meeting their responsibilities.

Mike's Minute: Reality trumping ideology for the planet this week
Labels: Banning plastics, Emissions, Mike Hosking, recyclingIt hasn’t been a good week for the planet has it?
We have found out we are making more single use plastic than ever before.
We have found out oil companies are making more money than ever before.
If you are a realist, as opposed to an idealist, none of this will have come as a surprise.
What drives most of us is convenience. It's why you should never trust polls on matters where the question involves any form of fanciful theory.

Clive Bibby: We appear to be on our own but we have been here before.
Labels: Clive Bibby, Emissions, Farming, zero emissionsWhile I am
becoming increasingly cynical about New Zealand Farmers’ ability to influence
their own destiny given the government’s dishonest representation of this
country’s responsibilities to the rest of the world populations, there is good
reason to believe things are about to change.
But it will be a
while before kiwis finally realise our mistake of placing the country’s future in
the hands of this bunch of destructive vandals.
The country is
being deceived by its own leaders - and they’re not all politicians with a
secret agenda. Newspaper editors are responsible for much of the misinformation
that appears on the front page of the daily rag.
Oh really! Well let’s take a look at the evidence.

Heather du Plessis-Allan: Why are we wasting money on something we know we can't stop?
Labels: Climate change, Emissions, Heather du Plessis-Allan
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that we are being incredibly naive and frankly stupid in forcing farmers to pay for climate emissions. Or in fact, forcing anyone in this country to pay for climate emissions.
Let’s look at the facts:
New Zealand will not be able to stop climate change.
We only contribute (at last count) 0.17% of the world’s emissions.
We can stop emitting altogether right now, and climate change will still happen.

Question 1. Why is Article 2 (b) of the Paris Agreement ignored when it states clearly that countries should not reduce food production in their pursuit of emission goals? Proposals that will reduce production by 15% or more violate the Agreement.
