Progress halted once again—this time by spiritual vibes and centuries-old ghost stories. Onoke Heights, prime real estate in Te Kamo, where a developer dared to imagine something so outrageous as homes for actual living people.
Ninety-three of them, no less! But wait—Ngāti Kahu o Torongare stepped in to remind us that the land is wāhi tapu, sacred, because, hundreds of years ago, it was used to tend to wounded warriors and the deceased.
In the land of endless consultation and eternal litigation, that was enough to derail everything. The Environment Court bought it, High Court drama followed, and now here we are: celebrating the preservation of... an overgrown hillside, so spiritually important it lay undeveloped for decades—until someone suggested putting houses on it.
Forget housing shortages. Forget first-home buyers. Forget modern infrastructure. Let’s all raise a glass to cultural vetoes, legal red tape, and the triumph of ancient trauma over contemporary reality.
Because in 2025 New Zealand, it seems some memories are more important than futures.

Don't worry .National will fix it!
Really - usually this will take so long, the outcome will be the same.
This cultural hegemony involving endless litigation indeed seems destined to be the tragic and unproductive future for the country which will resemble an ill kempt cemetery.
The National government is indifferent to anything that screams racial division or racial preference. The Labour government et al are totally behind racial division and racial preference. This divide and conquer strategy is not random or unplanned. We can see in the UK the ruling classes be it politicians, academics or business people have removed themselves from the everyday problems of ordinary British people. It is happening here too now where racial division is the tool of choice. This is a strategy and it is working. Land ownership will play a bigger part in the future. Also, "Three Waters" albeit now disguised under another name, will create more division.
