Eliora: Maturity Can Have Good Advantages

‘Old(er)’ age has a lot going for it. Maturity has additional advantages, markedly if you are a leader, such as Donald Trump or Winston Peters. Their maturity gives wisdom, drive, history of things to avoid, opportunity to develop beliefs, more time to be comfortable in their own skin, a tendency to see the broader perspective, determination to leave a legacy and the confidence to make fast-paced, good, decisions. It’s not their first rodeo!

One gained the office of president of the most powerful country in the world by a significant margin. The other, deputy prime minister of a little Pacific nation, is widely recognised as the best foreign minister in the world. Their ages are not an issue: in fact it helps enormously as they have earned respect over time.

As Duncan Garner said recently on the Platform, “Peters is flying high.” Trump has hit the White House running and is also flying high.

Here are some ageist words and phrases that may have negative implications in some circumstances:

Senior citizen or elderly

Over the hill

You look good for your age

Old timer

Act your age

Boomer

There is no accusation of ageism when you analyse these two political figures. It’s never too late to turn the love of their home country into a career later in life.

Neither Trump nor Peters are missing a moment to put their stamp on the political history of their countries. Trump is figuratively stamping his feet on the left’s woke nonsense and the corruption that is holding his country back from success. Peters is stamping his feet at the biased MSM, insisting they get their facts correct and stop biased reporting – and he has done so from the very first cabinet meeting.

No one can ignore these two leaders.

It is notable that many (but not all) of the doctors who speak out against their government’s Covid-19 narrative are retired or near the end of their careers. They are prepared to sacrifice their reputations and any future career. They know how the system works. They may be fined and deregistered. Drs Malone, Soon-Shiong, McCullough, Nass, Dalgleish and many more have courageously stamped their mark against the medical and pharmaceutical fraternity and are demanding truth, answers and good science.

It is the same with those who do not go along with the catastrophists of climate change. Teaching climate propaganda to students and children has become the norm. The woke ideology of Net Zero is a money-grabbing tax promulgated by politicians. The bulk of scientists who are speaking out against this man-made global warming/boiling nonsense – with cows burping and population growth supposedly out of control – are newly retired or close to retirement. However, they are ignored by governments and legacy media. Scientists like (to name a few) Dr Tim Ball, Dr Kelvin Duncan, Professor Ian Plimer, Professor Steve Koonin, Professor Richard Lindzen, Professor William Happer, Dr Willie Soon, Professor Sallie Baliunas, Patrick Moore (co-founder of Greenpeace) and many more.

Here is a spoof that challenges the decision of a family making the tough decision to put ageing grandpa in suitable care.

The BFD | Family Makes Tough Decision to Put Ageing Grandpa in US Senate

Trump will be 79 on 14 June 25. Peters turned 80 on the 11 April 25. Both are sharp in mind and on top of their game, unlike Biden who lacked full mental capacity probably from before he came into office. Their years are of immense value and a benefit to their performance and ultimately to their respective countries.

They are seen as seizing their jobs head on and thoroughly enjoying the ride.

Taking life easy would be so boring.

Sadly, most people have no idea a what defines a "boomer".
For most who regularly use that term it usually comes laced with unfounded resentment, jealousy, bitterness and a lack of personal responsibility for their own self-inflicted misery and failure.
Far easier and now trendy to blame someone else or an entire generation for hardships. Of course, it's nonsense.
My older siblings are boomers, but I can't see any point in blaming them for my own misfortunes especially when they are born from my own mistakes.
So true to my own X generation, I raise the middle finger and tell those who apply ridiculous labels exactly where they can go.

I believe in Trump's competence as much as I believe in the ethical standards of the guy that initially published Eliora's piece, viz serial defamer Cameron Slater. Peters is smarter, but has used his brains pretty much entirely as a wheeler-dealer whose priority is to stay in power, rather than to achieve anything in particular. But I guess the older generations can thank him for the Gold Card (although this one would freak out if any NZF male MP was found trying to police a women's toilet...)
