Professor Robert MacCulloch: One News, NZ's State Broadcaster, spends $1 million to attack 4 billion Muslims & Christians Worldwide.

Congratulations to One News in New Zealand, which has just spent around $1 million of tax payers dollars in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, on a five part investigation into a Church - which it calls - shock, horror - "loud" and "fundamentalist". The Church in question is Destiny. It counts many Māori & Pasifika as members. What does One News discover?

The Church holds an "active stance against the LGBTQI community" with women not enjoying equal rights. One News' Campbell discovered several women "who live in its shadows" and that the "premise" of Destiny’s support group for men, "Man Up", includes "family values" and "anti-drugs". He discovered "a culture of, at best, antiquated patriarchy". Journos at One News discourage such beliefs & values, so Destiny Church required investigation by them. The primary question posed by this Blog is whether holding conservative beliefs about LGBTQI and matters of gender is a feature of any of the world's Great Religions? Should discovering "antiquated" and "patriarchal" beliefs warrant a One News Five Part Series costing the best part of $1 million of tax payer dollars?

Does the Islamic Faith hold easy-going views about being gay? It is strictly forbidden. What about the Catholic Church? Pretty much the same position. Do these religions hold "antiquated" and "patriarchal" views about women? There is not one ordained priest in Catholicism to this day who's a woman. I'm no religious expert, but similar rules apply in Islam, where women are not permitted to lead men in prayer. This Blog has nothing to do with defending or critiquing any church or religion whatsoever, whether it be Catholic, Islam, or Destiny Church for that matter. Unlike One News, we respect people of faith. But we are critiquing how NZ's State Broadcaster has launched a costly investigation into a Church only to discover it preaches conservative & traditional values. Why doesn't One News investigate Muslim and Catholic views about different sexual orientations and gender equality? Do One News journos take the view that women who belong to those faiths live in their "shadows"?

We all know the truth behind the One News investigation. Its journos hold different values to devoutly religious Muslims and Catholics. Its journos think their views are superior to religious people's views. One News considers the beliefs espoused by Destiny Church are a threat to the parties and politicians it wants elected in 2026. The reason One News journos didn't attack Muslims or Catholics for their beliefs is they don't have the guts, since there'd be consequences for them personally. Destiny is an easy target. There is no place in a nation for a State Broadcaster to insult the views of religious people as being "antiquated" and "patriarchal". Who is One News to play God? It should be wound up. It serves no purpose, other than wasting money to create division in NZ society with stupid investigations into nothing to get its journos more clicks and help them sway elections.

Professor Robert MacCulloch holds the Matthew S. Abel Chair of Macroeconomics at Auckland University. He has previously worked at the Reserve Bank, Oxford University, and the London School of Economics. He runs the blog Down to Earth Kiwi from where this article was sourced.

Add to that, where’s the doco on the fetish men they call the rainbow community, or the racist & fraudulent actions of the TPM? TVNZ just continues to prove why they should be defunded.

Hypocrisy, is the core fundamental philosophy of the left. Along with coercion, cowardice and envy.
Try, have a nice day.

No surprise to me and others who have experienced the blatantly woke “investigations” of TVNZ’s Number One attack dog - John Campbell.
This guy can’t lie straight in bed yet has no trouble distorting the truth to suit his version of the story.
Following the floods here on the East Coast in 2023 and during the subsequent Parata led Enquiry where some of us locals who live at the coalface were invited to testify, Campbell approached me personally - supposedly to find out what happened, who or what was responsible and what needed to be done in order to prevent it happening again.
Well, so much for investigative journalism - within hours of our brief discussion, he was leading the TV One 6pm News broadcast with coverage that l couldn’t recognise as anything like what actually happened.
In other words, as Robert rightly describes, these guys ( and particularly Campbell ) have already decided what spin they will apply to the investigation before it hits the airwaves. Same goes for his defamatory findings about Bishop Tamaki’s group of conservative Christians.
As Robert points out - you can’t make this up.
These reports are pure fiction and are designed to give an impression that their version of the truth is unassailable.
Unfortunately for them, their time in the sun is, or should be, fast coming to an end.
Hurrah for that. Not before time.

Sound good to me. What this represents is a return to pre-modernity and liberalism. These are the attitudes that made the Christian West great, so it's no surprise that when they are subverted, the greatness recedes as well.

There's this habit of simply describing a political opponent's illiberal views while huffing and puffing about how horrible those views supposedly are, as if this in itself is some sort of counter-argument against them. It's not.

OK, the liberal worldview is increasingly being rejected by more and more people in favour of pre-liberal traditional values: having different political views is the nature of how politics works. "The end of history" that was proclaimed in the early 1990s was supposed to mean that liberalism and neoliberal economics had won, and that was that - all political debate was supposed to be settled. We are seeing now that that claim is false, and alternatives are desired.

At this point in time Islam and the Catholic Church in New Zealand are not strongly vocal critics of the Cultural Marxist establishment that has so much power in this country.

John Campbell is a Marxist and is proud to proclaim this.

Like or not Christianity is the biggest threat to Marxism . This is particularly true of fundamentalist Christians . Many in mainstream denominations have been captured by Marxism, through ignorance and hence become apostate. This is predicted in scripture.

I have been labelled as ' a fundamentalist Christian' in my medical notes just because I stated I had more trust in God than big Pharma . I am also sexist and racist and trans phobic , anti science
lack integrity , pig ignorant and more. All badges of honour really.

Good on Brian with his 'battle axe' for daring to have an alternative view . Christianity historically thrived when persecuted most. The trans craze , in my view is evil. Rescuing tiny innocent children from perversion and destructive unscientific ideologies is a worthy cause.

As has been written in commentary to previous posts, if you want to understand TVNZ's position, just, just look at the Board.

I wonder if Dear John Campbell will " do a story " on the Seventh Day Adventist Church - who here in NZ have a large Congregation from all Ethnicities of our Communities, including both Maori, and The Pacific Island Community as well - but - no LGBTQI - because that is against their Christian Beliefs.
Strange does not The Destiny Church have that same belief as do The Baptist & Jewish Parishes.
The one Church " that bent that rule ' - was The Church of England.
In Russia, not known for it Liberal views, The Orthodox Church has had a " revival ", but in that Country you will not find any LGBTQI groups - Nyet - not allowed.
SO [question] " Which group on an International scale has had the 'most to say about how we live, speak, associate ', to the point of being the founding parents of Hate Speech Laws and Cancel Culture"?

Anon 3:50pm - Absolutely. Nothing will change at TVNZ until the board changes. The current situation with NZME may well serve to underline the importance and impacts of board composition. Hoping to see real change there.
